I was lucky enough to hear Jane Goodall speak many years ago in Watertown, SD. Another attendee asked her, "if you could ask everyone to just one thing to save animals, what would it be?"

Her answer was, "walk your dog." She then gave a gently scathing lecture on saving the animals in front of you.

Jumped back into WoW Classic for a few hours because there were things I missed and holy crap, SO dead. Tried four different servers, no one talking, nothing on the AH, think I saw maybe three people.

Back to FFXIV I guess, even though it's just as quiet. I miss random chats.

Just booked my hotel for D23 2026 (booked but not paid, and cancelable in case I can't get tix). Motel 6 Maingate is already booked solid - my bad for waiting until today to check - so we'll be at the Castle Inn.

Have a whole year to build a new Bucky arm, but I know I'll end up con-crunching it.

I just restarted it myself after a prolonged break.

A multi-panel comic (page one of four) introducing a lion on the African savannah, and a brain-eating amoeba named Larry.

In page two, another lion pushes the first lion into a river as he is drinking. While underwater, the lion inadvertantly snorts some water into his nose, thus infecting himself with Larry the amoeba.

In page three, while the lion sleeps, Larry the brain-eating amoeba journeys up the lion's olfactory nerve, complaining about being hungry. He pauses, wondering what is in front of him.

In the final page, Larry has reached the lion's brain. The comic is interrupted to spare the reader from the tragic death throes of the fatally infected lion.

DFW is the worst in my book. Reagan and DEN are close seconds. FAR is fine until something goes wrong, like Aunt Emma's aunt sneezed, then you're stuck for a week. Oddly I've never had a problem at LAX, and Logan is fun to fly into over the water.

Magical Express was great and missed. One of the best rides I had through was more recently with an ex-ME driver (he still drives for Mears) who very happily talked my ear off about the whole history of ME, Sunshine Flier, and Mears and how they interact with Disney.

My ultimate Gen X test is doing the stomp/clap bit that preceded the title song and see who yells "XANADU" at the appropriate point.

. . . but I am done with the whole concept of chasing making a name for myself. The burnout was way too much.

So I gave it up. It actually wasn't that hard to do; I'd had moderate success as a fan artist and ditched that as well due to the very real toxicity in the community I drew for, so walking away for peace of mind wasn't an issue. I still draw, I still write . . .

I hate creators following creators that do that; I'm not on social media following folks for 50 posts of promotion for the occasional one of actual engagement. So I had to put my foot down and say "if it's something I wouldn't read or engage with, I'm not doing it".

I tried telling my publisher that I'm happy to be active and engaging, but I can't do the whole thing with cross-blogging with other authors, promoting by reviewing, filling my feeds with countdowns and quotes and freebies and ads for myself, which is what they wanted.

No offense taken at all on the qrp from a rando, lol! You're dead on, there's no formula, and the ones that I see that are successful are the ones who are just "themselves" with a bit of promo thrown in from time to time. (This will be long, apologies in advance.)

THIS. I gave up writing professionally after yet another talk with my publisher about how I had no time to write if I was expected to spend all my time promoting myself. I'm horrifically bad at begging people to pay attention to me.

#FantasticFour was easily the best looking Marvel movie in ages, and ‪@mgiacchino.bsky.social‬ 's score was incredible, though I expected nothing less. Good - not great - movie, which is still saying something as I was never a fan the Fantastic Four in general.

Proof representation matters.
