How are we going to train senior people removes the middle?
My thoughts: we are going to have to rethink education to focus on holistic thinking and working from abstract principles as the default rather than expecting people to pick up the principles through years of detailed work.

The traditional career path for developers typically moved from junior roles focused on implementing straightforward features to mid-level positions handling more complex implementation work and ultimately to senior roles focused on architecture and systems thinking. 𧡠#AI #HR #Technology

This whole thread on the "sunk-cost" dangers of expertise and the need to keep rethinking at high levels of abstraction is a mirror to lots of the thoughts I have been having lately.
I can feel my brain rewiring itself again.

βSkravlekoppβ. I was given this a couple years ago by the Mayor of Baerum in Norway. It loosely translates as βgab cupβ. Itβs part of a national effort in Norway to fight loneliness and isolation. When you drink from it at a cafe, youβre inviting others to join you for a chat.

The original logic was to counter the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
The unintended negative consequence is that βYear End Givingβ is being pushed earlier in the year as Black Friday sales move earlier.
Everyone is trying to get the jump on everyone else, so everyone is noise.

I love your phrase βmostly succeededβ.
My experience was that once I hit βmostly succeededβ, the deepening process of getting from βmostly succeededβ to βalmost completely succeedingβ has been a joyful blossoming and each period of fallback gets shorter and more powerful for further growth.

What I love about strewing is that it deeply respects the autonomy of all the other agents in this system we inhabit.
What is hard about strewing is realizing that every action and non-action is a form of strewing.
What I strew is a direct reflection of who I am.

Strewing requires mental habits it took time to cultivate:
- Willingness to live with mess
- Not claiming credit for anything
- Not caring what gets picked up
- Not worrying about how what I put down gets used
- Trusting learning systems to self-correct
- Comfort leaving conversations open

It has taken me a long time to see how strewing works.
Itβs about participation in the flow of the zeitgeist. Itβs about knowing that students find teachers wherever they are as fast as they are ready.
Itβs about not being attached to what gets picked up.

An outdoor seating area resembling a modern architectural structure, with a group of people watching a performance or presentation on a screen. The setting is surrounded by trees, and the scene is illuminated by soft lighting.

In my experience, depressed people care and donβt see how they can have impact.
I have found these simultaneously necessary for clients facing this lack of motivation.
1: seeing all people working on the same problem in other spaces as allies
2: doing what they can
3: community to grieve with

In 2001, I took a Dream Analysis class at Starr King School for the Ministry with Rev. Jeremy Taylor. As someone with severe aphantasia who had not remembered a dream in 15 years, the class was eye-opening. Rev. Taylor taught a form of interpretation in which everyone got insight from every dream.
