It is irresponsible not to think about the scenario. Talk to your friends and neighbors offline. Make phone trees over Signal. Etc.

It won’t be long before even US citizens lose the first amendment; there are powerful people and institutions willingly giving it up. They are deliberately shrinking the economy to rob workers of their market power, and something smaller is easier to wrest control over.

I’m sounding like a broken record, but people need to make contingency plans, and decide what risks they can tolerate for themselves and their loved ones and people they don’t know, for a full-fledged authoritarian dictatorship of the oligarchy, a fascist one even.

I’m finally happy, so it seems fitting now that disparate external factors have begun to threaten the stability of my life situation.

I wish I could go on vacation without such immense worry.

It’s worth pointing out that all summer child care sign up dates are long past. It’s really easy to take a lunch break, grab the kids at 3 pm (which is when a lot of camps end the day) and finish work.

Extended care isn’t always available and adds expense if it does.

I think an underrated aspect of the current state telework policy is that it allowed talented people with disabilities to join the civil service without having to do the added labor demanded of us by the ADA — disclosure, reasonable accommodations, appeals, etc. — to enjoy an equitable workplace.

Half of my team is exempt by geography. We will all continue having virtual Teams meetings, just in a more distracting environment.

Going into the next fiscal biennium with a projected budget deficit and possible recession, your solution is to hail mary subsidize commercial real estate, cut special education transportation, discipline labor, and increase risk-adverse economic behavior.
