I’m a structural engineer, I always defer to the “Average Layman Smell Test,” when considering how physics works. All the math and science is unnecessary, you should feel confident being inside the buildings I have designed.

I’m seeing a few complaints about how difficult building permitting is in certain jurisdictions. As somebody who reviews plans for permit, help us help you. 3-4 back and forths to get certified plans asking for additional information and getting basically , “yeah, we’re not going do that,” etc.

Spent a weekend with good friends who grew up in a small town in Wisconsin. Hearing stories of the “hijinks” they got up to as kids, and it’s striking how different their lives would’ve turned out had they done a fraction of this stuff as young POC in a city.
