05.08.2025 15:01 โ ๐ 1745 ๐ 263 ๐ฌ 62 ๐ 0No they have not. I went a couple years ago and at the time I wasnโt even aware of the gravity of Katrina the way I am now and I could clearly see the devastation is still there
05.08.2025 15:34 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0And see I knew this and was still not expecting them to stoop that low
05.08.2025 15:33 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0And Iโm definitely gonna get to that but I canโt lie I need a lil hiatus from reading about and see my people continuously be sabotaged by the us government๐ญ and not that I wonโt see that when I research other countries but Iโm not gonna pretend like itโs not very personal when itโs my own
05.08.2025 15:32 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0They specifically replayed that clip about 3 times and you can tell Spike is trying to really just present the facts of the time objectively but it was like in that moment he couldnโt just place that clip and not emphasize how fucking disrespectful it was for him to say that
05.08.2025 15:17 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Heโs been memified and rebranded as this funny dopey nepo baby who just didnโt know what he was doing when that was not the case AT ALL
05.08.2025 15:16 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Huge reason why the attempts to rehabilitate Bush piss me off so much. So much human suffering took place because of him, and the government "response" to Katrina is maybe the most transparently and indefensibly evil of the bunch
05.08.2025 14:47 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The last hundred years of American history is what Iโm referring to specifically :)
05.08.2025 15:15 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Iโm thinking Brazil, Venezuela, or South Korea might be my next go.
05.08.2025 14:38 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0American history is horrific. Itโs soooo horrific. But it also soooo interesting. Once Iโm through with thoroughly researching modern American history, I donโt know what country Iโll dive into next. Would love to hear what countries youโve learned about that have expanded your world view
05.08.2025 14:38 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0And Iโm not saying this bc Obama was actually oh so radical but goddamn he seemed so at a glance in comparison to his (possible) predecessor. And he WON?? Like overwhelmingly?? Even in some of the most historically red states? What the hell happened guys?
05.08.2025 14:24 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 5 ๐ 0Americans voted for Bush 1 and 2. They voted for Regan. They voted for diet republican democrat Clinton. And after all that, Obama wins?? By a landslide??? What was in the air? Genuinely how did that happen?
05.08.2025 14:24 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0So like how did Obama win the 2008 election with such an overwhelming majority?
I was only 8 when that happened and also steeped in an โapoliticalโ cult so I wasnโt allowed to engage in the politics of the time at all lol. So Iโm genuinely confused as to how that was even remotely possible
Genuinely. I respect him so much more as a film maker
05.08.2025 14:03 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Another thing I just added to my watch list. Iโm so glad that we have these documentaries
05.08.2025 14:03 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Watching the new docu-series on Hulu will reinforce this fact. There was a collective and intentional lack of responses that was very evidently fueled by racism and classism.
And itโs like everything we speculated when Katrina hit was confirmed by the people who lived it.
After watching the NatGeo doc, it is right up there with Tulsa, Oklahoma for me when it comes to purposefully destroying Black lives.
05.08.2025 13:34 โ ๐ 24 ๐ 10 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0If you think A.I. will solve your problems, you don't understand technology and you don't understand your problems.
04.08.2025 22:54 โ ๐ 1627 ๐ 352 ๐ฌ 41 ๐ 15next thing on my piccalilli agenda: rigging up pre-orders for JavaScript for Everyone piccalil.li/javascript-f...
05.08.2025 13:17 โ ๐ 28 ๐ 7 ๐ฌ 5 ๐ 1I definitely think this is part of it. We need to be having these conversations at home. One of the reasons why I watched it with my sister
05.08.2025 13:18 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I think about this a lot. We are the history makers and the culture makers. What stories we tell and pass down and amplify really do determine and play a huge part in what does and doesnโt get remembered. Thatโs why I watched it with my sister and thatโs likely why spike flew out there to film it
05.08.2025 13:16 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0We get to choose what we remember, IMO. Collectively, we *can* define what's important for focus. I do think a lot of capture of attention (into the hands of "spokespersons") has helped with this to a point of erasure
05.08.2025 12:51 โ ๐ 8 ๐ 5 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0My thoughts exactly! It definitely should be one of those historical โNever Forgetโ moments and yet people born the year it happened donโt even know about it
05.08.2025 13:15 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Iโm really so sorry you went through that. The whole time I kept thinking about how fucking traumatizing all that mustโve been omg
05.08.2025 13:14 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Iโll probably be watching this soon bc Iโm trying to absorb as much as I can since this has been buried like this
05.08.2025 13:13 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Cried like a baby I couldnโt handle it
05.08.2025 13:13 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Iโm gonna watch this next actually probably tonight or tomorrow
05.08.2025 13:09 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I am so so genuinely deeply sorry. I cannot even imagine my god my god
05.08.2025 12:44 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0This is the land of chattel slavery
It hasnt improved
Like few things better exemplify why we need to cut that war shit OUT. What the fuck were the troops doing in Iraq while people DROWN in their own homes???
