Folks, George W Bush was an absolutely TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE President. PLEASE understand this.

No they have not. I went a couple years ago and at the time I wasnโ€™t even aware of the gravity of Katrina the way I am now and I could clearly see the devastation is still there

05.08.2025 15:34 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

And see I knew this and was still not expecting them to stoop that low

And Iโ€™m definitely gonna get to that but I canโ€™t lie I need a lil hiatus from reading about and see my people continuously be sabotaged by the us government๐Ÿ˜ญ and not that I wonโ€™t see that when I research other countries but Iโ€™m not gonna pretend like itโ€™s not very personal when itโ€™s my own

They specifically replayed that clip about 3 times and you can tell Spike is trying to really just present the facts of the time objectively but it was like in that moment he couldnโ€™t just place that clip and not emphasize how fucking disrespectful it was for him to say that

05.08.2025 15:17 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Heโ€™s been memified and rebranded as this funny dopey nepo baby who just didnโ€™t know what he was doing when that was not the case AT ALL

05.08.2025 15:16 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Huge reason why the attempts to rehabilitate Bush piss me off so much. So much human suffering took place because of him, and the government "response" to Katrina is maybe the most transparently and indefensibly evil of the bunch

The last hundred years of American history is what Iโ€™m referring to specifically :)

Iโ€™m thinking Brazil, Venezuela, or South Korea might be my next go.

American history is horrific. Itโ€™s soooo horrific. But it also soooo interesting. Once Iโ€™m through with thoroughly researching modern American history, I donโ€™t know what country Iโ€™ll dive into next. Would love to hear what countries youโ€™ve learned about that have expanded your world view

And Iโ€™m not saying this bc Obama was actually oh so radical but goddamn he seemed so at a glance in comparison to his (possible) predecessor. And he WON?? Like overwhelmingly?? Even in some of the most historically red states? What the hell happened guys?

05.08.2025 14:24 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 5    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 5    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Americans voted for Bush 1 and 2. They voted for Regan. They voted for diet republican democrat Clinton. And after all that, Obama wins?? By a landslide??? What was in the air? Genuinely how did that happen?

05.08.2025 14:24 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 3    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

So like how did Obama win the 2008 election with such an overwhelming majority?

I was only 8 when that happened and also steeped in an โ€œapoliticalโ€ cult so I wasnโ€™t allowed to engage in the politics of the time at all lol. So Iโ€™m genuinely confused as to how that was even remotely possible

05.08.2025 14:24 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 14    ๐Ÿ” 4    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 12    ๐Ÿ“Œ 1

Genuinely. I respect him so much more as a film maker

05.08.2025 14:03 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Another thing I just added to my watch list. Iโ€™m so glad that we have these documentaries

05.08.2025 14:03 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Watching the new docu-series on Hulu will reinforce this fact. There was a collective and intentional lack of responses that was very evidently fueled by racism and classism.

And itโ€™s like everything we speculated when Katrina hit was confirmed by the people who lived it.

After watching the NatGeo doc, it is right up there with Tulsa, Oklahoma for me when it comes to purposefully destroying Black lives.

If you think A.I. will solve your problems, you don't understand technology and you don't understand your problems.

I definitely think this is part of it. We need to be having these conversations at home. One of the reasons why I watched it with my sister

05.08.2025 13:18 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I think about this a lot. We are the history makers and the culture makers. What stories we tell and pass down and amplify really do determine and play a huge part in what does and doesnโ€™t get remembered. Thatโ€™s why I watched it with my sister and thatโ€™s likely why spike flew out there to film it

05.08.2025 13:16 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

We get to choose what we remember, IMO. Collectively, we *can* define what's important for focus. I do think a lot of capture of attention (into the hands of "spokespersons") has helped with this to a point of erasure

05.08.2025 12:51 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 8    ๐Ÿ” 5    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

My thoughts exactly! It definitely should be one of those historical โ€œNever Forgetโ€ moments and yet people born the year it happened donโ€™t even know about it

05.08.2025 13:15 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Iโ€™m really so sorry you went through that. The whole time I kept thinking about how fucking traumatizing all that mustโ€™ve been omg

05.08.2025 13:14 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Iโ€™ll probably be watching this soon bc Iโ€™m trying to absorb as much as I can since this has been buried like this

Iโ€™m gonna watch this next actually probably tonight or tomorrow

05.08.2025 13:09 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I am so so genuinely deeply sorry. I cannot even imagine my god my god
