Coming of Age by Lucy Foulkes

Coming of Age by Lucy Foulkes

Really enjoyed the real-life stories paired with wider context in this book, but mostly, and unexpectedly, the opportunity to reappraise my teenage years. Also, made me think about how well we prepare and support our children through this stage of life. Also, much is made of school as the stage /1

Introducing …The Writing Framework As this was released very recently, I’ve been trying to look into the key messages that are in this document and the implications for me both as a classroom teacher and Literacy Lead, so that I can…

Here’s my latest blog introducing the Writing Framework which I hope could be useful to anyone else trying to get their head around it. The infographic summary is also in the comments. teachersparkly.wordpress.com/2025/07/16/i... #edusky

My kid is about to start FE doing vehicle tech after not managing any other placement for more than 2 months since Yr 6. His impression is that it's much more inclusive. I asked why he thought that and he said because he was involved in a task and his teacher noticed and asked him if he wanted /1

If you are struggling with serious MH problems, an autism diagnosis can be crucial in identifying useful actions. And my kid was at a progressive school when he had a distressing breakdown that robbed him of much of his education and his teenage years.

I’ve had lots of messages about my Guardian article, in which I argued we should stop universal mental health lessons in schools. The messages have fallen into three categories, and I’m reflecting on this here because I think it exposes something interesting in the field (and research in general)

Baron Cohen pointing out suicide risk amongst autistic people.

CW suicide: just in case part of this blog was a response to me. Pointing out suicide stats amongst autistic people is a reasonable response to O'Sullivan's book. For some of us, managing this risk, as a direct consequence of failures in our education/SEND/MH system is very real.

Ancient Greek pottery designs created by the Year 5/6 class from North Newton Primary School. These designs were added to heavy-duty paper plates using tissue paper, black card, and paint. They all follow the classic orange & black colouring, with a bit of gold detail and the children all chose different ideas, stories, or myths that they had been learning about as the inspiration for their designs. We also looked at photos of original museum pieces to help with decoration and the style of the images.

I've been back to North Newton Primary in Somerset today, where the Year 5/6 children have been creating Ancient Greek ceramic designs. Some incredible results and the ideas behind them were even better. 🀩

What Britain looks like after Brexit

DANIEL HANNAN

JUN 21, 2016

It's 24 June, 2025, and Britain is marking its annual Independence Day celebration. As the fireworks stream through the summer sky, still not quite dark, we wonder why it took us so long to leave. The years that followed the 2016 referendum didn't just reinvigorate our economy, our democracy and our liberty. They improved relations with our neighbours.

Happy Daniel Hannon Day to all who celebrate it. I hope you all enjoy the fireworks as we mark perhaps the worst piece of political forecasting going.
