When @fastlerner.bsky.social reported in April that the EPA was going to stop collecting greenhouse gas emissions data from most polluters, it wouldn't admit it was eliminating the requirements. Today it announced the change, saying it's "cutting unnecessary red tape" & "unleashing American energy."

After reading through the descriptions of the autism-related research projects that were cut, I was struck by how complicated the science is — especially when compared to the simple (and debunked) theory that vaccines cause autism.

After a judge ruled in a suit on behalf of Univ of CA researchers alleging their funding was unlawfully terminated, the grant was reinstated. But the EPA appealed, leaving Schmidt unsure about the fate of the project.

“Millions of pregnant women are getting exposed as we speak,” she told me.

so much autism-related funding has been cut, including a grant to researcher Rebecca Schmidt to determine whether air pollution from wildfires increases the risk of neurological conditions. Her preliminary analysis found a link between wildfire smoke and autism, but EPA terminated the grant anyway
