When does the next bus come? GoTriangle reduces wait time on its busiest routes The regional agency joins GoDurham and GoRaleigh in offering bus service at 15-minute intervals between Durham and Chapel Hill.

Raleigh increased bus service from every 30 min to every 15 min on its route serving Glenwood Ave. Ridership then doubled in the year that followed.

Oh wow, MoCo has canceled the Midcounty Highway extension to Germantown, which has been on the books since the 1960s highway boom.

Our population of residents 60 and older in Montgomery County is growing, with a projected population of 25% by 2030 — and I will be one of them! As someone who grew up in an intergenerational home, I know firsthand the value and contributions of our older adults and importance of aging in place.

I had the honor of celebrating National Senior Citizens Days with my colleagues, Councilmembers Kristin Mink and Laurie-Anne Sayles.

Amazing news. Congratulations to all of the people who worked so hard on this, for so long. You made it happen.

The vote is in! 10-1 to approve the Master Plan of Highways and Transitways—and after 60+ years, M-83 is OUT of county plans!

CM Jawando—M-83 won’t provide the relief that is needed upcounty. The juice isn’t worth the squeeze. We need better transit, better bus service.

CM Jawando thanks CM Balcombe for her comments and says while he agrees we need better transportation upcounty, he is voting to remove M-83 because he doesn’t agree that M-83 will actually provide the relief that is needed. It would cut through Prathertown, a historically Black community.

CM Friedson—not providing transportation solutions upcounty is not reasonable, but keeping a highway on the books that will never be built isn’t reasonable either. He supports the funding for the accelerated upcounty transportation study and wants to be sure it leads to action

CM Balcombe points out that while upcounty has Ride On, headways are 30+ minutes.

We do need better public transit upcounty! She is right that for transit to a viable alternative to driving, you need frequency and reliability. But evidence shows us new roads will not solve traffic problems

CM Balcombe is opposed to removing M-83 from the MPOHT, which would run through her district. But she thanks fellow Councilmembers for supporting her amendment to fund a detailed study of upcounty transportation funding.

CM Glass says he wishes BRT on MD-355 was moving faster in the northern portion and suggested it be done before the central/south portions. We need to invest in transit upcounty. But the truth is M-83 is not being built and we need to be honest with county residents and remove it.

CM Glass says that change is part of the lifecycle of a plan—things have been added since the first MPOHT in 1931 and things can come out. M-83 has been studied extensively for 35 years and is no longer considered in other county plans. Time to remove it and turn to real transportation solutions
