If you see this, don't participate. It's a rigged study by Lisa Littman and unethical researcher J. Michael Bailey meant to undermine access to care. Spread the word.

A tree with a hole in it. A squirrel stretches itself along the tree with its feet higher than its head.

Sadly, it split during a storm. We had the rest of the tree from just above the hole down for about another year, but then they chopped down the whole thing :(

This tree used to be directly in front of my apartment window. One time a HUGE mushroom sprang up on it overnight. I spent so much time watching the squirrel who had babies in the hole chase other squirrels away.

ICE has only existed since 2003. A Bush-era creation, it is a militarized federal secret police that has been imbued with the Supreme Court with the unconstitutional power to ignore the fourth amendment.
Abolishing it and salting the earth where it grew is the moderate stance.

Duane Kearns Puryear, holding his panel for the AIDS Memorial Quilt. It reads, in block letters: "My name is Duane Kearns Puryear. I was born on December 20, 1964. I was diagnosed with AIDS on September 7, 1987 at 4:45 PM. I was 22 old. Sometimes, it makes me very sad. I made this panel myself. If you are reading it, I am dead..."
There are several great resources to learn about Duane, his advocacy, his family, his panel, and the politics of memory and re-creation, especially this one by The Dallas Way: http://www.thedallasway.org/stories/written/2021/9/19/duane-puryears-and-the-quilt-panel
Duane Puryear died in 1991.
It's your birthday, Duane.

In the early 00's, Scarleteen was my resource for factual sex ed. I grew up in Georgia and the only sex ed we got in (public!) school was abstinence-only and full of misinformation. I can't even remember how I came across the site, but it was invaluable. Let's keep it going for the next generation!

If SNAP serves ~1 in 8
Every person in the US - each person in your household - must donate an entire day's worth of food per week to compensate. If you know 3 people who do not donate, you'd need to donate 12 meals/week
Point: do everything you can; also PUSH bc there is only 1 realistic solution

In such company you can find gaiety, humor, intellectual challenge, artistic temperaments, perseverance against odds, honor, comradeship, and love. Friendships can be deep, and loyalty can be unswerving.
In the gay life you can be yourself and form friendships with those who know what you are and who accept you and love you, not despite this or in ignorance of it. The group life is not a thing of shame, a den of iniquity. It is a circle of protection, a necessary part of a minority society. By shunning it, you shut yourself off from one of the most rewarding parts of being gay, but not from the fact of being gay.
The Homosexual In America by Donald Webster Cory
... I say that it is time to open the closet door and let in the fresh air and the sunshine; it is time to doff and to discard the secrecy, the disguise, and the camouflage; it is time to hold up your heads and to look the world squarely in the eye as the homosexuals that you are, confident of your equality, confident in the knowledge that as objects of prejudice and victims of discrimination you are right and they are wrong, and confident of the rightness of what you are and of the goodness of what you do; it is time to live your homosexuality fully, joyously, openly, and proudly, assured that morally, socially, physically, psychologically, emotionally, and in every other way:
Gay is good. It is.

I guess I shouldn't be *surprised* but it is making my head spin that the feds have shot two people, with live rounds, killing one of them, in Chicagoland in recent weeks, and in both cases they were very clearly found to be lying about what happened, and essentially nothing is happening about it.

here's my take: I think humans are really fucking good. inherently. I think we are amazingly kind and giving. and everything about the world we live in is an attempt to stop us from being that. I think our societies step in to stop us from being good. I think our culture punishes us. but we ARE good
