The UN has reported that lorries carrying baby food and nutritional supplies are at the Gaza border, but Israel is not allowing them to enter. How is it possible that no one has taken effective action to stop this?
20.05.2025 13:44 β π 13 π 10 π¬ 0 π 2Rep. Laurel Libby, R-Auburn, recently used my second-place finish in the 1,600-meter run, and that of my teammate in the 800-meter run, to malign Soren Stark-Chessa, the trans-identified athlete who finished first. One of the reasons I chose to run cross-country and track is the community: Teammates cheering each other on, athletes from different schools coming together, and the fact that personal improvement is valued as much as, if not more than, the place we finish. Last Friday, I ran the fastest 1,600-meter race I have ever run in middle school or high school track and earned varsity status by my schoolβs standards. I am extremely proud of the effort I put into the race and the time that I achieved. The fact that someone else finished in front of me didnβt diminish the happiness I felt after finishing that race. I donβt feel like first place was taken from me. Instead, I feel like a happy day was turned ugly by a bully who is using children to make political points. We are all just kids trying to make our way through high school. Participating in sports is the highlight of high school for some kids. No one was harmed by Sorenβs participation in the girlsβ track meet, but we are all harmed by the hateful rhetoric of bullies, like Rep. Libby, who want to take sports away from some kids just because of who they are. Anelise Feldman Freshman, Yarmouth High School Yarmouth
this is a letter to the editor from a high school track runner who came in second to a trans girl in a race. her state house rep in maine started talking about it. so she wrote this: www.pressherald.com/2025/05/14/r...

No one has ever been found criminally responsible for any of their deaths.
No one should die in prison.

01.03.2025 09:36 β π 21 π 14 π¬ 0 π 0The current persecution of trans people in US prisons is horrific. Osita is right - it's a historic roll back of rights. And we can see politicians in Australia moving the same way. We have to stand against any attempted persecution of our trans community.
22.02.2025 23:19 β π 1 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0Absolutely right, and it just funnels people into the criminal justice system, which makes everything worse for them and, in the long term, for the community as a whole.
09.02.2025 04:38 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thank you, @zoedaniel.bsky.social. We must fight this wave of antisemitism, but mandating that we throw people in prison with no thought for how we can best ensure they don't offend again doesn't create the stronger community we want. Never has, never will.

This is a huge win for our campaign and will change our participants' and their families' lives. But it's not over yet.
It's the greatest honour to work on this campaign with colleagues and participants (and their families) @vacro.bsky.social, as well as our sector partners.
From tomorrow, the cost of calling a mobile from prison in Victoria will be cut by more than half!
This is is a great result for people in prison and their loved ones in the community. Phone calls from prison will be more than 50% cheaper from tomorrow!

Mr Battin has made crime a key policy during his tenure in parliament, even testing party lines to support raising the age of criminal responsibility. βEvery week I would engage with kids in that age range β¦ and almost without fail, if you looked at their history, you could identify them as high risk at a very young age because they had a parent in jail or with addiction problems, a lack of family support, had been in and out of care β a whole range of things," Mr Battin told The Age in 2021. βYou canβt just raise the age and think these kids will walk home and be fine. No, we need the systems. "But if we can do that successfully, we will save a fortune in the long term for not putting these kids in jail.β
