People who dismiss our demands for the truth with โlove is stronger than DNAโ are engaged in deliberate and desperate obfuscation.
And concealing the truth is the opposite of love. ๐ฅ

29.07.2025 21:19 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I'm constantly amazed by adoptive parents who are also writers who talk about honoring people's stories but also continue to speak for and over adoptees.
Do you not grasp that we adoptees experience life through a lense you can't possibly understand?
Please stop writing and speaking for us.
I was adopted solely because I was female. Had I been born male, my adoptive parents would have selected another baby. "You're still an object" is a true and painful awareness for adoptees.

Yes, their/our entire reality is being untethered is very well said. Rebuilding the gigantic network of stories we've told ourselves our whole lives about who we are and where we are from and why we are the way we are...all of it shifts. It is hard work to do and even harder to do alone. ๐

Well I optimistically assumed (ahem) since the MC is adopted, that the father/daughter writing duo were basing the MC on her being adopted. She suffers from anxiety and depression irl. The book has won awards for suicide prevention. Unable to confirm that she is adopted /1

04.05.2025 14:57 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Cover image of the graphic novel, A Haunted Girl. The picture shows a girl, somberly looking at her reflection in a pool of water. Behind the girl is a monstrous entity, depicting the anxiety and depression the girl feels inside. From Bookshop.org: The fate of all life on Earth depends on a girl who doesnโt know if she wants to live. Cleo, a 16-year-old adopted Japanese-American whose anxiety and depression drives her to suicidal thoughts, is fresh out of the hospital and trying unsuccessfully to reintegrate back into her old life. What she doesn't know is that her real struggles are just beginning as she finds herself encountering an increasingly terrifying succession of ghosts. Is she losing her grip on reality...or is the explanation much, much worse. Courtesy of writers Ethan Sacks (Old Man Hawkeye, Star Wars: Bounty Hunters) and his daughter, Naomi Sacks and artist Marco Lorenzana (Hulk), this gripping saga aims to be both a paranormal thriller and an inspiration to those who are battling their own, less literal, demons in real life.
Have any #adoptees read A Haunted Girl by Ethan and Naomi Sacks? I am reading and am curious if others had read or heard of the graphic novel. ๐ฅ
