Who Is Juggling Her Life

"Most adoptees, especially those adopted in infancy, grow up to be fine. You don’t hear from them." 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 This statement tells me all I need to know about this person's lack of knowledge/perspective to speak about adoptees. I learn so much from adoptees who school ill-informed non-adoptees.

I cannot get over the gaslighting and how easy it is for adopters to lie to adoptees. My AM still jokes that I get my allergies from her father, like, I'm 50?! and know this to be untrue and she knows it is untrue. The cognitive dissonance is terrifying.

My HS biology teacher told me to either skip the assignment because I didn't have the information or just make something up. I made something up. She didn't even suggest using my adoptive family and she knew them AND that I was adopted. The assignment made me feel so isolated from my classmates.

My pre-adoptive identity IS my identity. To conceal it is to violate the right to know who I am.

People who dismiss our demands for the truth with “love is stronger than DNA” are engaged in deliberate and desperate obfuscation.

And concealing the truth is the opposite of love. 🥚

It is visually marvelous that the pencil's eraser appears to be chewed on.

I'm constantly amazed by adoptive parents who are also writers who talk about honoring people's stories but also continue to speak for and over adoptees.

Do you not grasp that we adoptees experience life through a lense you can't possibly understand?

Please stop writing and speaking for us.

I was adopted solely because I was female. Had I been born male, my adoptive parents would have selected another baby. "You're still an object" is a true and painful awareness for adoptees.

-donating to charity
-reading a book
-taking a hot shower
-eating a meal
-building a puzzle
-stretching
-working on a craft
-planning how to spite your enemies
-going to sleep early

Yes, their/our entire reality is being untethered is very well said. Rebuilding the gigantic network of stories we've told ourselves our whole lives about who we are and where we are from and why we are the way we are...all of it shifts. It is hard work to do and even harder to do alone. 💖

Other adoptees is the best thing I have found so far. Other adoptees sharing their thoughts make me feel seen.

You explain this so well. I came out of the fog last summer and I am in my 50s. I wish people could tread water with us as well.
