Replace the M8

That's a good idea. We do need another exhibition where people can talk about it.

Things are with politicians. Giving them some time to do what they've said they'll do. But if they don't we will turn the pressure back up.
But we want more visuals so people can see what it would look like. Also get the beginnings of a scenario explored professionally.

The costly repairs were chosen for us. The public had no say. No alternative options are ever considered when it comes to the M8. There is very little democratic process behind Transport Scotland's decisions.

The Goodwin Curve, a graph of public support for traffic reduction measures over time. Initially, support grows until there is enough for the plan to proceed. As details emerge, support falls away. Immediately before implementation, there is panic. Then, over time, support builds to higher than ever before as people experience the benefits.

New Yorkers: neither your city nor your country are that unusual, you are at a well-studied point on the public opinion curve for traffic reduction measures. (the "Goodwin Curve")

This curve was observed in London, Stockholm, and many other cities.

There is a @replacethem8.bsky.social campaign to try to put right some of the damage done to Glasgow by motorways. There's currently a multimillion, multiyear project to repair a concrete viaduct, which I think could be an opportunity to get the motorway out of the city centre

Perhaps no other UK city has built a monument to automobility quite as gruesome as Glasgow's M8. But its story nonetheless resonates across urban Britain.
