But just as they bent their torches to light the kindling and murder this woman theyโd accused of witchcraftโher latent power ignited instead.
It turned out she *was* a witch, and she could summon storms. And not only of cloud and wind and thunderโof ravens too.
They captured Maeve and bound her to a stake in the village square.
Theyโd found their scapegoat, and wanted to see her suffer.
Her brother was the MacDonnell clan chieftain, so he shouldโve been able to stop her execution, right?
But he was off fighting the English. So the villagers saw their chance and took it.
But they were also afraid because their crops failed, their livestock was dying, and the invading English were getting closer by the day.
Not to mention the pox that had ravaged their village years before, leaving the survivors with scars both seen and unseen.
So they blamed Maeve.
In 1651 Scotland, in a small village in the Highlands, a woman named Maeve MacDonnell wasโalmostโburned at the stake for witchcraft.
For years, the villagers had been terrified of her and the ravens that haunted her steps...

I have a big issue with people treating fanfiction like it's something shameful. That calling a book a 'fanfic' is a dirty word. When fanfiction, in and of itself, is one of the oldest forms of storytelling, and in my opinion, is a legitimate sub-genre of literature.
