A wonderful morning soundtrack: trumpet vibes from a flock of Cranes flying over my house. πΊ
18.02.2026 08:14 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Spring here takes patience, but progress is showing. Helleborus, crocuses and the first Chrysosplenium buds are appearing, alongside the familiar
#Thewinter10 plants Iβve been seeing these past weeks #WildflowerHour
My Dover Chalk Down Dwarf Thistle made it through the winter inside and is thriving! Tiny spikes are already showing on the second pair of leaves π±

04.02.2026 09:41 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 06:30am. Loud amber warning on my phone β οΈ. Freezing rain.
Not an exaggeration, as it turned out in the daylight.
The usual stuff for this week's #Thewinter10: tough little troopers that couldnβt care less about frost and snow β and yes, even some uplifting signs that spring is on its way.
#WildflowerHour
An afternoon stroll along a stream with the very first leaves of Lesser Water-parsnip
(Berula erecta), seepage bubbling up here and there, and Water Horsetail (Equisetum fluviatile) popping up β see them in action! π±π¬

Mooi! De Engelse naam Chalk Hill Blue vind ik een veel mooiere. Rond Dover vliegt deze soort volop in kalkgraslanden.
31.01.2026 14:07 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Weird winter so far. Stuck for weeks between frost and thaw under persistent high pressure.
Sunny yesterday, snow today, then briefly milder for a couple of days next week (6β10Β°C).
Winter wonβt commit, but spring isnβt showing up either βοΈπ€οΈ
This week, I did a heathland and grassland survey and found Mat-grass. In winter, the plant really stands out from a distance due to its bristle-like growth

Awesome Jeremy!
25.01.2026 20:16 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0With few species in bloom, I turned my #WildflowerHour challenge into finding #Thewinter10 rosettes
1. Dianthus armeria, Geranium pyrenaicum, Erodium cicutarium, Plantago coronopus, Hypochaerus radicata
2. Centaurea cyanus, Daucus carota, Agrostemma githago, Cardamine hirsuta, Aphanes australis
A few more snaps from last nightβs intense aurora show. The colours were insanely bright β a βdancingβ green band even stretched right down towards the south. Really impressive β¨

An absolutely amazing northern lights show tonight β even right above my head and in the southern sky. Moving south like a wave. Even more spectacular than last year.
