It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office.

Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc.

Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

Yesterday on X, the Green Partyโ€™s post in solidarity with Ukraine after 3 years of resistance to Putin drew criticism from some supposedly on the left as well as (predictably) from the far right.

Common themes in this were that Ukraine is fighting a โ€œproxy warโ€ for the US & NATO...๐Ÿงต

How HS2-lite and HS3 saga shows flaw in Starmer's levelling-up plan Most of the biggest projects given the green light by the Chancellor are in already prosperous areas across the South of England

While this government has ridden roughshod over climate rules and concentrated investment in London and the South East, Greens offer a different reality.

With support for High Speed 2 in full and Northern Powerhouse Rail, we demand the north gets the investment it deserves.

OPEN LETTER TO BRISTOL LABOUR

OPEN LETTER TO BRISTOL LABOUR

Dear Tom,

I am writing to express my disappointment in your recent misleading comments in your petition on potential changes to the cityโ€™s waste and recycling collections. I am offering you an opportunity to retract them formally.

Your comments presenting the consultation, aimed at improving Bristolโ€™s recycling rates, as predetermined, were particularly unhelpful.

I know you will agree that it is important to maintain trust in local politics.

In the petition, you falsely claim that Bristol Greens have proposed a 15% rise in council tax. Unlike many other councils in the UK, we are not taking this action. You also say that the council is โ€œcurrently planning to scrap your bi-weekly bin collection, and instead only collect your black bins once a month.โ€

I hope you will take this opportunity to provide urgent clarification and to join me in encouraging residents to have their say in this incredibly important consultation.

As we have stated, Bristol Greens will genuinely consider the results of the public consultation before making any decisions. Consultations in the past may have only been a tick-box exercise but under our administration, we want to use consultations for genuine feedback from residents.

Consultations in the past may have only been a tick-box exercise but under our administration, we want to use consultations for genuine feedback from residents.

As Iโ€™m sure youโ€™re aware, Bristolโ€™s current rate of recycling is only around 45%, and fell during the time of the previous Labour administration. However, the ย UK Governmentโ€™s โ€˜Resources and Waste Strategyโ€™ aims for at least 65% of waste to be recycled by 2035.
On top of this, in the next several years the Government will also introduce a carbon tax on our waste, putting a significant financial burden on already-struggling local authorities across the country.
We remain disappointed that Labour have chosen not to engage fully in administration in Bristol despite being the second-largest party. This is in sharp contrast to your Labour colleagues in other local authorities such as North Somerset and South Gloucestershire who have chosen to engage in cross-party governing.
These authorities have recently moved to three weekly waste collections and have consulted on four weekly collections too. I assume you were not aware of this, or Iโ€™m sure you would have made similar comments to your Labour colleagues in these authorities.
Yours sincerely,

Cllr Emma Edwards, Green Group Leader

When Laura K insists rejoining the EU wouldn't bring growth for the UK as EU countries on average don't grow much atm, it is (deliberately?) misleading.

The UK's economy can of course grow if trade with EU countries increases, no matter how well they are doing for themselves.
