Reads in part:
Recommendations
THAT Council change the term of all Council Advisory Committees (Type A Civic Agencies), except for the Urban Indigenous Peoplesโ Advisory Committee, to end on January 30, 2026.
Purpose
To seek Council approval to change the term for 10 of the 11 โType Aโ Council Advisory Committees to end on January 30, 2026, to address timing constraints and capacity pressures arising from the simultaneous scheduling demands of an intense Council and Public Hearing meeting schedule due to significant volume of public hearing referrals, FIFA World Cup 2026, and the 2026 general local election.
Zero Means Zero Meets FIFA
Staff report Dec 9 recommends terminating 10/11 Advisory Committees. As the World Cup looms and we've yet to see a Human Rights Plan, volunteer-led citizens advisories are scrapped.

Tenant Relocation Policy.
Nakagawa brings up a situation in Burnaby where the developers had a bond to cover a relocation there, but then the developer declared insolvency, rendering the bond useless. Asks staff if new West policy will address that. (Yes it would)

The results are clear. Painted lanes lead to more cyclists being killed or seriously injured. Cycle tracks (i.e. protected lanes) are much safer and lead to huge increases in cycling.
This is data from Vancouver. Our politicians should stop ignoring it.

Increasingly getting annoyed with the electeds who call themselves โpro-transitโ when they donโt show up for transit nor vote for transit. I really donโt care that you take bus or skytrain when you only cater to voters who drive. Everyone seems to be โpro-transitโ til they are worried about votes.

With respect, if cities want scooter riders to ride in designated cycle lanes, they need to build them everywhere. Shaming users for choosing the option that keeps them safer, when the alternative is sharing unsafe streets with speeding multi-ton vehicles, is unhelpful at best & harmful at worst.

Screenshot of Google Maps with driving directions highlighted, offering a transit alternative highlightโno transfersโ
Itโs so nice to see Google Maps recommend people try public transit! An excellent detail of this is mentioning that no transfers are needed, which can be a significant mental hurdle for those unfamiliar with transit.

Toxic rhetoric online isn't new, but when political leaders indulge violent language directed at local elected colleagues, it's a failure at most basic level of democracy. Politicians have a moral obligation to call our (not hug out) their supporters when they cross that line. Do better.

Graphic that says "Vancouver budget update: Road safety programs are at risk"
The 2026 Vancouver budget risks imposing cuts to road safety initiatives that we simply can't afford. With so few details being released, we call upon council to amend the budget to direct that essential transportation programs and staff be protected.

JUST IN: Katie Wilson significantly extends her lead in the Seattle mayoral race.
She now leads Mayor Bruce Harrell by 1,346 votes, or 0.5%.
That's up from the squeaker-lead of 91 votes in yesterday's update). She won today's batch of nearly 6K ballots by 20% (!).
Not much left at this point.
