I cannot like this post but definitely co-sign.

I have no problem writing (typing) “alder” but still stumble over the word when speaking. If anyone has a better option than “alderperson” I’m listening (and often find myself saying “alderman” or “alderwoman” — although of course that does not work in the case of an official who’s nonbinary).

47th Ward also has very engaged residents & often has the highest voter turnout (or one of the highest) in the city. Also some folks with political connections.
