Ah I figured we were talking a dragon! Are all drakkits as sociable as Kudi, or are they usually stand-offish and this is just the outlier. Is poaching a concern - especially for one as large as Kudi?

That's so true. I have some pieces that became complex because I was feeling complex at the time for one reason or another. When life is smooth as butter, my art will shift to reflect that and I'll legit noticeably ease up on blasting through black ink.
