At an athletics competition with my daughter today in Tullamore, and they have the most Irish of inspirational quotes.

So important that we remember Grace and the 47 other children and families that were impacted by this horrenduous abuse. Hopefully there will be some form of vindication for them and the whistleblowers too.

After a lengthy delay it's disappointing (but not surprising) they have decided to publish it during a Dail holiday so it can't be immediately debated. Seems to be a standard response to these types of reports being published. We'll see if any real lessons are to be learned

Redefining success Sir as I reflect on beginning of a new year, I find myself exploring what the term success really means? The message that many young people today hear about success is about having a college degree, a high paying job along with fancy materialistic items. As one becomes older, one realises that success really is peace of mind, loving your work, enjoying your hobbies, staying health and strong, as well as having the freedom to choose. Opinion: When it comes to early years education, we're waiting for the Donogh O’Malley moment Grainne McKenna and Dr Sheila Garrity say it’s time for early childhood education in this country to change for the better.

The State should invest substantially in Early Years Education & Care, particularly in respect of children/families who are experiencing poverty or trauma or deprivation.

Really need more investment in early intervention/ prevention & family supports. Dealing with the systemic issues of poverty, homelessness, so we don't have to intervene when young people are in a court process. It's better in the long run for both society & more importantly for the children

It was a very poorly kept secret and plenty of other work went on with young person. Have always felt tho that it was a real expression of care that they had someone turn up for them everyday. The impact is immeasurable.
The one good adult (or team) in a child's life is life changing

It's easy to read, sigh, and move on. But we are complicit through our silence, through looking away, through our gratitude that this affects somebody else.

Gardaí investigating alleged sex assault on woman in her 90s while in hospital Gardaí are investigating the alleged sexual assault of a woman aged in her 90s at a hospital in the northern half of the country.

Very distressing case of woman with alzheimers being sexually assaulted in her hospital bed. Huge challenge for gardai when a witness can not make a statement.
It means many victims do not get justice unless there are witnesses or forensic evidence
