UK mental health law is failing racialised communities The Patient and Carer Race Equality Framework must be adopted into legislation to reduce harm that people can receive from 'helping systems.'

The safeguards meant to protect minoritised ethnic communities from historically unequal treatment in the mental health system are currently still just a recommendation.

That’s not enough. The Patient and Carer Race Equality Framework must be made law.

We need to understand the experiences and circumstances that sit at the root of people's distress - not label them as 'disordered' for how they respond to that distress.

The diagnosis of personality disorder does not help us understand what has happened to people.
