Devlog & updates for MixHeart — a RPG set in a modern dystopian city. Psychic powers, memory, rebellion. Demo coming...eventually. Built in Godot.

One of the shops you can eventually explore in MixHeart, WIP. I wanted a mix of pop culture references and world building.
It’ll house an optional mini game

Started adding rim lighting to make lights feel like they affect characters

Convenience store in Block F

The market is a place where different vendors in Block F gather to sell goods

Exploring the Diner. Like other places in Block F I want it to be a place the player can revisit for various reasons

A mantis woman stands in front of a large, beetle-like creature several times her size.

Happy new year!
I hope to develop and show more of MixHeart this year.

Entering the park from the north entrance.
I kind of mentally picture top down kind of horizon-ish lighting, but I will make it more defined later with benches and denser shadows

Been working on audio balancing and sketching my own tracks
The vinyl shop was something I did early on pixel art wise, so I think I’ll come back to it for a makeover in the future

Inventory bank system in MixHeart. I haven't gone over the specifics of the UI look, but I think I got a design down. I want it to invoke old Windows vibes.
Characters have limited inventory slots, so each character can hold 10 things both equipped and unequipped.

Did you know Goto has a different parry sprite if he lands it frame 1?

Small moment from Mixheart in the diner

I made a little green booth by the park entrance. It’ll probably have a side quest related to it and maybe extra detail to better indicate its purpose

Naruto for sure

The run-away mechanic was something I wanted to give a personal touch, so I themed it
I'll probably animate the vinyl player and a special "run away" run for each character later on based on their personality

I didn’t really like the idea of just trees for my park section of the city, so I met in the middle with an artificial approach based on how other parts of MixHeart feel so far

A look at one of MixHeart’s early puzzle mechanics 👀
The little TV effect with a larger photo is meant, in some situations, to see something up close or to add to a moment. Here it's used as a basic WIP hint

Livin’ in the city
This is another part of a walkable back alley in Block F

Thank you!! ❤️

The park is meant to feel more open but kind of off to contrast the city.
It’s an explorable area that will have some side quests. Had fun with making reflections

Thank you!!

Block F is kind of the hub of the game, so it's meant to be more detailed and interactive than other areas I'm planning
#indiedev #pixelart #indiegame
A basic mechanic in combat is you can block certain attacks as they're telegraphed by pressing down. There's benefits to doing it besides damage reduction.

I've been cleaning up Sona's pixel art since it's one of the earliest I made
Now she spins

Been working on an initial pass with enemy designs for the first dungeon

Buying and selling from a NPC. Basics are here for more polish later. My goal is reputation with NPCs can unlock discounts and rare items, changing over time with quests and activity with them.
