Happy #FluorescenceFriday! This is a 3D render of a confocal image of an NIH3T3 cell expressing a membrane marker ๐ŸŸข showing long filopodia called cytonemes. Cytonemes reach toward neighboring cells to exchange information. Actin is โšช and nuclei are ๐ŸŸ . ๐Ÿ”ฌ by postdoc @christinaadaly.bsky.social.

I got the same email - it's hard enough responding to human reviewers. The LAST thing I want is to learn about is what a robot thinks of our preprint. Hard pass.

Ok, I trust mine to protect me too. Which is why I trained it extensively on what the virus looks like so it can handle it.

You dont have to be in the profession of science to contribute to science. You can do publishable research as a hobbyist too.

Exploring the living world, with whatever means you have, without any sifting for grander purpose or ulterior motives, is such a unique high. There is so much beauty and so many stories to tell around the proverbial campfire, and so many people are missing out.

Gotta fix this.

In a short time, weโ€™ll have fake AI scientists fabricating fake AI results reviewed by fake AI reviewers. This data will then be text-mined by AI and ultimately delivered to mindless AI consumers.

21.11.2025 14:49 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 5    ๐Ÿ” 2    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Horrifying.

I really hope there is some sort of information embedded in these AI generated "data" image files that journals will be able to use to identify this type of fabrication. ๐Ÿงช

I suspect zero chance a reviewer would identify this as being fake.

Admire this historic picture of Saturn, captured by Voyager 2 in 1981. The giant planet fills nearly the whole view, with north tipped toward the top-right corner. A pale band crosses the middle; along its bottom edge thereโ€™s a greenish oval (it would look brown in ordinary light). Just above and left of it is a brighter yellowish patch, and between them some small clouds stand out. Higher up, against the black sky, you can see two moons: bigger Dione on the right and smaller, icy Enceladus on the left.

I was browsing through NASAโ€™s Photojournal archive when I found this historic image of Saturn, taken by Voyager 2 on Aug. 11, 1981.

The spacecraft was about 14.7 million kilometres away when the picture was captured.
