Living in a 1930s house in California, so there's a significant risk of old-house stories. Otherwise, expect some combination of cooking, computers, biochemistry, skiing, and hiking.

Yes, and the first one is called _Star Wars_.

Yeah, but mostly the layer of dead skin cells on top and any mucus...
and yes, I have killed some moments over the years by saying what I'm thinking out loud.

Huh. Because I like skiing, I wished for more snow. It is now snowing gangbusters in the Sierra Nevada. However, my go-to ski area is closed because there is too much snow. Also, the roads are closed so I couldn't get there anyway.

I guess I see why people want to do sports indoors sometimes.

Yes, definitely. From memory: Wisconsin has some very nice cheeses. California has a lot - Laura Chanel for fresh goat cheese and Cowgirl Creamery for soft-rind cheese, and Vella for firmer styles. New England and Oregon both have some excellent cloth-wrapped and other Cheddar-style aged cheeses.

In the specific case of wild turkeys, one of them also came within inches of slaughtering me on a Connecticut parkway some years ago. Bustard launched right across the road at eye level and came across my car's hood. Almost hit the windshield, which would have taken out both me and the bird.

Big Bird survived on the street, with no parents, living in a nest in an alley, for what, 50 years? You definitely have to respect that.

Seriously though, large avians can mess you up like the featherweight dinosaurs they are.

Well, swans can apparently break people's arms with their wings, and turkeys are bigger. So I presume they'd mug him for his keys and drive off in the van.

In a previous job, I wished some of the programmers who came before me had a firmer understanding of how rounding works.

Also, being able to estimate numbers has saved me in a lot of cases where I botched a digit on the calculator. (96^2 is less than 96*100, so anything more than 9600 is suspect).

Late to the party, but I'm going to throw in "For Emily, Whenever I may find her" from Simon & Garfunkel.

This is pretty surprising to me because that part of town is so very urban. Of course, the 2021 mountain lion was surprising because it was found hiding in a sidewalk tree I pass under regularly, so perhaps I need to adjust my expectations.

The officer who shot Alex worked for DHS for 8 years. The officer who shot Renee worked for DHS for over 10 years. Both are considered β€œhighly trained.”

The problem isn’t "training." DHS was built to violate our rights and has been empowered to act with impunity. We must MELT ICE and dismantle DHS.

Hugo Lowell told MSNOW that the Trump administration expects that the murder of Alex Pretti will "blow over and go away." They believe that Americans will forget about it in a week or so.

Voting NO on the DHS funding bill is the bare minimum.

Backing Kristi Noem’s impeachment is the bare minimum.

Holding law-breaking ICE agents legally accountable is the bare minimum.

ICE is beyond reform. Abolish it.

You could actually structure your moral code around the idea that law enforcement doesn't exist to execute people. You don't have to create perfect victim narratives, you can just refuse to accept that the state gets to kill people.
