3 years is a long time in politics, so who knows what will happen at the next election. But holy shit this seems momentous. The Nats will go further right. Maybe the Libs moderate if Ley can hold onto power, but surely Taylor tries to roll her ASAP.

Breaking: Nationals won't re-enter into Coalition agreement
Nationals leader David Littleproud has announced the minor party won't re-enter into a coalition agreement with the Liberal Party, ending a decades long arrangement.
Hoo boy, the Coalition has collapsed. Yes they will probably reform before the next election, but this is still very significant. It will give the Nats a chance to go further right, and the Libs a chance to moderate, assuming Ley doesn't get rolled

The Aus media section with a truly crushing caption. Poor @amyremeikis.bsky.social how will she ever recover from... *checks notes*... being critical of Opposition Leader Peter Dutton.

What a win by the Tiges! Was not expecting that result at all but it was one hell of an effort. Lalor looks a bit special.

"Killing Americans" sure sounds like a line they'll use as a justification for sanctions and future aggressive moves against Canada.

I don't think that question even needs to be asked. The coalition will be looking to throw away as many climate related policies as they can. It's why the LNP cannot win the next #auspol election.

Trump administration disbands two expert panels on economic data
U.S. President Donald Trump's administration has disbanded two expert committees that worked with the government to produce economic statistics, potentially affecting the quality of data.
@rbreich.bsky.social this seems like one of those things that flies under the radar but is actually really important. Why would the Trump admin do this? Is it just to fudge GDP, unemployment, and other economic numbers in the future?
Or is there some other reason?

It seems like progressives the world over will always struggle though, because their ideas involve nuance and aren't always easy to boil down to 3 or 4 words. But at the very least they can ensure their ideas can't be reduced to a negative 3 or words, which conservative parties are very good at.

You're right, a lot of them are bad at Web 2.0. Especially on a national level. Gotta upvote Crockett and Frost as being good at it though, and perhaps Auchincloss, who at least understands that people consume media differently these days and is doing podcasts.

Shearer who tackled alleged gun-wielding teen gets hero's welcome from Jetstar staff
Shearing contractor Barry Clark arrived in Sydney on Friday to cheers from Jetstar staff, thanking him for his quick actions to subdue a 17-year-old who allegedly had a shotgun.
Can we just say this out loud? The muted and almost light tone of coverage of this guy breaking into an airport and managing to board a plane with a LOADED SHOTGUN would be wildly different if he wasn't white.

Unfortunately I think people won't vote to stop climate change until it directly impacts them, and by then it will be too late. In Sydney that's frustrating. We have 4 major rivers with large flood plains that would be inundated in a storm surge from a cyclone, impacting hundreds of thousands.

Umβ¦its because we are burning so many fossil fuels.
The media are unable to link fossil fuels to climate change to the damage of climate change
Burning coal, oil & gas heats oceans and atmosphere &causes more storms, bigger storms, more damage and higher insurance premiums.
Its not complicated

The Duttonsβ empty trust fund could have cut their tax bill. Hereβs how it worked
Opposition leader Peter Dutton has revealed his familyβs trust holds no assets after being used for years in property transactions.
I can't help but think with all this news about Dutton and his investment portfolio, Albanese is going to call an #auspol election in the next few days.
He'll want to make sure it's the first thing the country thinks about going into a cost of living election.

The rest of the CGT plan on investment properties should be open for discussion though. I personally would cap it at 2 or 3 to make it politically viable going into an election and getting it through parliament. But getting rid of it entirely should be the end goal.
