Want to prevent cancer through research, if I persist we may get there in the end or at least I will learn something along the way. Zebrafish lab in Edinburgh study tumour initiation. Favourite cell is neutrophils. Iโค๏ธfish! I paint to relax ๐ŸŽจ

Oncogenic Ras activation in permissive somatic cells triggers rapid-onset phenotypic plasticity and elicits a tumor-promoting neutrophil response Ras mutations drive tumorigenesis yet persist in normal tissues. Elliot et al. explore this paradox, finding that HRASG12V induces bifurcating cell fates in the zebrafish larval epidermis, with lamc2+...

Hot off the press, after years of work by many PG and undergrads and collaborators, we present you wilth a detailed analysis of oncogenic RAS driven cellular plasticity and host immune response within 24 hours of oncogene activation in a #zebrafish model www.cell.com/cell-reports...

The @fengfishlab.bsky.social lab have found that mutation in the Ras gene can change normal cells and trigger an immune response that promotes cancer formation - all within 24 hours. This may offer new ways to detect or prevent cancer before it becomes established.

A short thread. For years, I have been surprised by how much confusion our discovery of clones carrying cancer-driver mutations in normal tissues has caused in the cancer community. Typical questions like: (1) if you see these mutations in normal cells, are they really cancer drivers?... [1/4]
