Yes, I pass on shows regularly now and have done really for quite some time. I weigh up pros and cons show by show but in general would rather go to 3 or 4 small shows than 1 big one and even then I'd probably spend less money.

It's not only the prices they'll be slashing!

How else would you keep ahead? I'd suggest running, as fast as you can in the other direction!

Blustery day, isn't it? Here's the National Grid: Live generation data. Wind and solar are generating 74.2% of our electricity. Gas is generating 13.1%. And yet our household electricity prices are pegged to... the volatile price of gas. Which is the basis on which the right attacks... renewables.

I would have said it's a race to the bottom if most parties hadn't already got the shovel out and started digging.

the post office is a public service. it doesn’t need to make money. public transit doesn’t need to make money. the library doesn’t need to make money. some things exist for the public good and we desperately need lawmakers to stop thinking about them in terms of capitalism. these are not businesses.

I use Rarewaves, they are pretty good.

And always avoid the low feedback eBay sellers.

I messaged them about the postage and they said it was purely to stop UK residents ordering from them. I emailed PHd earlier today to cancel the order and I'll look elsewhere.

I'm finding it difficult to get certain albums here on any format. Tried to get the new Animalize CD from bandcamp but UK postage was €200 purely to stop people here buying it and them then having to work round postage costs. Ordered in June from their UK distributors and still don't have it.

Agreed. The first 3 Sleep Token albums are being reissued on vinyl. It'll be around Β£100 for all 3. If they were doing CDs that would be around Β£40. At that difference I'll just opt out altogether.

I've never gotten into the habit of multi-buying albums on different formats. Dur to cost CD is my go to for new albums but for older stuff I tend to go towards vinyl if I can get it cheap enough. In truth I'm happy with either format if I think I'm getting good value.

I work from home most days in a small office with a CD player and still have CDs in my car, so that's easily my most listened to format but I have equal amounts of vinyl and play that when I can. Streaming/YT is only to check stuff out before buying, although I occasionally buy files from bandcamp.

Iain Banks: the final interview Iain Banks died last Sunday, just before the publication of his final novel The Quarry. Last month he talked to Stuart Kelly about writing, politics and all the things still left to do . . .

β€œI mean, your society’s broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No let’s blame the people with no power & no money & these immigrants who don’t even have the vote, yeah it must be their fucking fault.”

Yes. I suggest we all write letters today to all the PSBs asking why they’re not covering Ed Davey’s call to all leaders about Elon Musk inciting violence in their broadcast coverage. Make it specific. Don’t mention Farage. Then they can’t reply with a standard response

Mandelson was architect of 2nd State visit for Trump. That visit should not happen. It is sickening to confer special UK honour on Mandelson's fellow Epstein acolyte who is a dangerous autocrat, banning books, militarising police & destroying democratic freedoms.
