Yes, it is fascinating trying to have a conversation about the differences and how many people will argue (vehemently) that the silent protestors received the treatment they deserved for who they support, but the noisy protestors outside hotels have legitimate concerns and they are not rioting.

Surely there is also the 'o-ring risk', that something that does not make it into the summary because it is 'small', is actually vital. Consequently its absence from that summary undermines a proper understanding of the points being made.

Yes, I remember reading an MA dissertation available from a US institution online all about 'Fort Arlat' in Brittany when in fact they were writing about the place actually called Fort La Latte. It was named wrongly tens, maybe hundreds of times in the dissertation.

Maybe that is a skill that will never be needed again on the screen, but I think this bridge from theatre into televised drama is something worth acknowledging even if it endured for only a couple of decades.

However, I do think it illustrates a skill in TV drama which is perhaps lost now. TV of the time seemed to owe a lot to theatre and in productions like this, you very much see it. Yet, it is handled very deftly to give the sense of a world 'out there' far greater than could be portrayed on camera.

12 years ago I went there for a job interview and while there went in the college's garden shop and bought a chilli plant. I am happy to say that, even though we have relocated to Aberdeen, this summer it is still producing huge chillis. I can certainly recommend Writtle's shop.

The Austrian Army issued them at the end of the 18th Century but by 1800 had withdrawn them and they were never subsequently used in battle, despite their greater efficiency. It was because they were seen as "assassins' weapons" so not honourable for soldiers to use and the world turned its back on

In addition, people seem to forget that every new technology is not always adopted. I have long been fascinated why air guns invented in the 16th Century which were silent, smokeless and had magazines, were not used in place of noisy, smoky muskets which needed reloading after every shot.
