The New Surveillance State: Why Data Privacy Is Now Essential to Democracy | TechPolicy.Press While DOGE was sold as a cost-cutting initiative, it is clearly something far more sinister: a sprawling data-harvesting operation, Laura MacCleery writes.

DOGE was sold to the American people as a cost-cutting initiative. Instead, it is clearly something far more sinister: a sprawling data-harvesting operation that threatens the constitutional foundations for American democracy, Laura MacCleery writes.

It really feels like we did automation backwards. Giving all of the thinking tasks to machines and giving ourselves the manual labor is so backwards. In the meantime - if you have 10 years on your hands, robotics investments seem to make sense.

Ok, so this Model Context Protocol seems to be a pretty big deal. Looking forward to all of the awesome integrations. This feels like the way computing should have been all along.

I won’t use β€œLiberation Day” in the conversation again. It’s perverse at a minimum. I believe repeating it, even in a critical context promotes legitimacy.

I think we do this because that's how we're wired. We aren't fundamentally designed to ingest, analyze, and synthesize the entire knowable dataset created by humanity and use it rationally. We use intuition and social cues developed over millennia. Maybe we're the ones that need the upgrade?

And then there's the part where evil monster AIs are developed on purpose to train the AI that is evaluating the AI.

Just reread OpenAI's Superalignment essay. Makes me think Google should've dedicated 20% of compute to "don't be evil" to avoid their current dumpster fire state. Not sure if OpenAI will avoid self-immolation or setting the world on fire, but I applaud the approach. openai.com/index/introd...
