Physics teachers (especially in the North) do you have a well sequenced scheme of work? Can we come to visit? Has to be on 6th June. Lemme know!

I made this google slides of nearly 100 ideas for teaching magnetism and electromagnetism in the Summer term with help from @hookean.bsky.social If you havenβt seen it then it is worth a look: www.teachphysics.org/home/magneti...

Thank you everyone for taking part in #ChatPhysics this evening and please continue the discussion. Many thanks to ChatPhysics for allowing me the keys to their shiny new BlueSky account for the day!
19.09.2024 19:04 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Itβs all about the hype. Especially if the thing you are looking at is basically an ordinary thing made special because of some other reason. Like this is THE patent office.
19.09.2024 19:00 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Oh yep. I took my own kids to Bletchley. I was super excited, but they found it dull. I should have hyped it more.
19.09.2024 18:56 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Not amongst the things I was expecting to see this evening! Thank you @drdavidboyce.bsky.social ! Is it gravity fed?

19.09.2024 18:53 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I take 60-80 year 9 students to the eurospace centre in Belgium in June. Basically an interactive βtrain to be an astronaut β experience with on site accommodation and food so itβs all self contained #chatphysics #iteachphysics

19.09.2024 18:32 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Also, I take Higher Physics pupils to Glasgow Uni's Quantum Technology School each year, and the feedback has been great from them. It showed them possible career routes they hadn't considered. Particularly in computing. #ChatPhysics
19.09.2024 18:29 β π 3 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0I think so, though the trick is to get pupil on trips early enough that they have all their options open.
#ChatPhysics
Good point. For secondary schools we have to get those experiences in before options are narrowed.
19.09.2024 18:30 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Were you allowed to take measuring equipment on the rides? I tried to run PhyPhox in my pocket at Alton Towers but without much success.
19.09.2024 18:29 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We went to Alton Towers as research for our A level maths coursework back in the 90s. Mine was on the acceleration forces involved in the corkscrew.
