This vow was part of a larger campaign by the federal government in general, led by the President of the United States and supported by various federal officials, to punish those whom they viewed as being too “soft” or lenient in their treatment of undocumented immigrants. Thus, the alleged actions of one state district court judge, in an unexceptional case in an ordinary courtroom, have become the vehicle through which the federal government seeks to threaten those in state government whom they view as insufficiently supportive of its immigration policies. As a result, Judge Joseph has been charged with a federal crime carrying potentially devastating personal and professional consequences because of actions taken in fulfilling her responsibilities as a sitting judge in the Massachusetts state court.

This is a ¶ from a motion to compel evidence of bias from MA Judge Shelly Joseph's prosecution for allegedly helping an undocumented person evade ICE arrest. Homan's name appears 19X in motion. Current Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons' name appears 20X.
