Thanks for sharing, once it gets going that is amazing. I'd probably attend a festival of that kind of stuff!

Ok, let’s do thisπŸ™„

We’ll start with an explainer covering:

πŸ•’What is a 15-minute city
🏫What on Earth is going on with Oxford
πŸ‘½Where the conspiracy theories have come from

And then we’ll look at the Telegraph article

Just moments ago the parkway was TAKEN OVER by winter cyclists. At first I thought hundreds, but they just kept coming. Thousands and thousands! I almost cried. I’m so dang proud of MN right now.

Oh, BBC. Jenrick urging British people to 'join the Reform movement' is not news. It's propaganda. Also 'writing in the Telegraph' behind a paywall is not a public announcement. Is it, BBC? Lead story on R3 at half-six.

US strikes Venezuela and says its leader, Maduro, has been captured and flown out of the country The United States hit Venezuela with a β€œlarge-scale strike” and said its president, NicolΓ‘s Maduro, had been captured and flown out of the country after months of stepped-up pressure by Washington.

History often rhymes as the year turns. Romanian dictator CeauΘ™escu was executed on Christmas Day 1989 just as Panamian dictator Noriega fled following the US invasion. The intervention in Venezuela may shift Washington’s attention from Ukraine but shld also remind πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ that Russia is Maduro’s enabler

Mine too - I never got the OG, and basically only had a cassette copy of it until it got reissued on vinyl a few years back. Well worth the wait - why sample James Brown when you can just have the *actual* JBs on the record?

Trump Administration's Arrival on Bluesky Highlights Growing Pains for Open Networks | TechPolicy.Press The administration’s antagonistic entry to the platform is best understood as a game of chicken, writes Erin Kissane.

Really recommend reading this piece by @kissane.myatproto.social if you are about the future of social media and decentralized networks. This piece is not just about Trump's arrival on Bluesky; it's about the state of play for the open networking sector, and the political risks it faces.

Blue cities should tear up the roads in front of ICE facilities and then start decades of community engagement and input sessions to rebuild them. Let's harness our core competencies.

Your correspondent says 'we should listen' when it comes to Oxford's perennial transport issues.

I've been listening.

I've listened to people say that children's safety doesn't matter, because drivers can't be expected to slow down.

I've listened to people say that bus passengers don't matter, because drivers have more money.

I've listened to people say that traffic jams don't matter, because cities will always be congested.

I've listened to people say that collisions don't matter, because 'accidents will happen'.

I've listened to people say that vehicle emissions don't matter, because climate science isn't real.

And I've listened to people say that we mustn't reduce traffic, because that might inconvenience drivers.

I've listened, and I'm still waiting to hear a single effective alternative to low traffic.

This is simply untenable. There is no way forward with media and political classes captured by the right. Every time someone commits a crime you have to pray it's not an undesirable or it's purge time, then when it turns out to be themselves again they just shrug and wait for the next one.

Social media has ruined politics The right have been radicalised, while abuse forces moderates off the platforms. This can’t go on

β€œMPs are struggling to find anywhere on the internet that isn’t hostile territory. The online right monopolises X and are dominant on YouTube. On TikTok, neither the online left nor online right has much need for or interest in members of parliament.”

🚨An important reminder of the trauma faced by asylum seekers.

Not just in fleeing persecution abroad.

Not just in the perilous and desperate journey to these shores.

But by the hatred and vitriol put on them by the right wing in this country for callous political gain.
