Nice to be back in Edinburgh this week for #rhizosphere7. Now I'm full of interesting ideas, met lots of new and old #root and #soil friends, and even seen the inside of the building I graduated in (it was being renovated back then and full of scaffolding). Super worth it 🌱

The text reads: As the terrestrial biosphere moves into states without a present climate analogue, we need mechanistic understanding of ecosystem processes and their linkages with ecosystem function. This session brings togther scientists interested in advancing our fundamental understanding of ecosystem processes. We welcome studies on a range of scales, from greenhouse and mesocosm experiments to large field manipulative experiments, remote sensing studies, and modelling. incidentally while lots of people say they review at least reciprocally for their publications i wonder if we correctly estimate the ratio reviews:publication necessary to make up for the skew towards junior scientists (not reviewing or ending up leaving before they 'pay back')? its clearly not 2:1

it really feels like it can't be solved bottom up... there needs to be some kind of solid reward mechanism. its not like a line about being a reviewer makes much diffence on ECR CVs...

We really need slack in our carbon budget and we aren't even following our wildly optimistic carbon budget

I agree with the issues with the visualisation of effects in the 'classic' bounduary graphic. But the concept is so embedded in teaching now I'm worried about switching and confusing students
