Mit über 1.700 Wissenschaftler*innen wenden wir uns besorgt an die Unionsfraktion und die Öffentlichkeit. Gerade in diesen Zeiten braucht es eine starke demokratische Zivilgesellschaft, die nicht mit einem falsch verstandenen Neutralitätsgebot unter Druck gerät.

While it is still much better protected in democracies, the decline was also substantially significant i.e. in Argentina, Finland, Greece, Israel, Portugal, and the United States, and (to a lesser) degree but measurable in Austria and Germany.

Not yet two months has passed, and US democracy is in shambles. Checks and balances are disregarded outrageously, daily. This is a painful lesson for all democracies. We cannot take the structures, institutions, norms and practices of democracy for granted: they need to be defended and strengthened.
