The broadest restriction on Charter rights to free expression in Canada
14.02.2026 13:52 β π 24 π 17 π¬ 0 π 2Hey Iβm just some guy, though. Letβs ask some experts
14.02.2026 14:58 β π 31 π 11 π¬ 0 π 1Graphic with text reading: What is it? The Safe Access to Vulnerable Infrastructure By-law would set 100 meter buffer zones on how close "nuisance" demonstrations can be to certain types of buildings including places of worship, public and independent schools, post-secondary institutions, healthcare facilities, cementaries, childcare centres, and other designated facilities. Fines range from $500-$5000 per individual. Bottom of graphic shows a map to illustration the amount of space blocked by the proposed bylaw. 78.3 square km of the City of Winnipeg would be restricted.
Graphic with text that reads: "Why is this important?" - Nuisance Protest is non-specific, meaning any and all public protests, marches, round dances & other gatherinsg could be subject. - There are already anti-hate laws and a 50 meter buffer zone set by the Province for Reproductive Healthcare Facilities - Areas restricted by this by-law are public spaces and points of proximity to decision makers. City Hall, University Campuses, Wab Kinew's Office, etc. - Fines of up to $5000 could be issued to every person who shows up to Round Dances, rallies, group bike rides, marches, etc. - The language of the by-law extends to any protests in these exclusion zones that use amplified sound or block traffic. - Police will have new tools they will use to silence and punish protesters - This will almost certainly be racist in implementation.
A graphic with text that reads: "How to Help" - Show up for a rally at City Hall on Tuesday, Feb 17 @ 8:45 AM before EPC puts the by-law to a voite - Register as a delegate to speak to EPC on Tuesday, or submit written delegations by TOMORROW, Friday 13 @ Noon - Check out @wpgsouthcentre4justice on instagram who have shared instructions and a template for written delegations - Speak to your union, community, and religious leaders about your concerns and urge them to submit comments or register to delegate

10.01.2026 19:31 β π 20 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0The sidewalk snow clearing effort downtown (and outside of downtown by the looks of it) this year has been atrocious and the people that run this city should be ashamed of themselves. But instead, theyβll tell us weβre spoiled by the level of sidewalk snow clearing we have in Winnipeg.

22.10.2025 12:59 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The City has known for years that the library needs safer infrastructure on the 4th floor. They know Community Connections and safety hosts have a proven record of improved safety and deescalation. They are consciously withholding funding for adequate maintenance and staffing of the library.
22.08.2025 03:38 β π 26 π 10 π¬ 1 π 0This is Scott Gillingham's fault, and councillors, press, and residents need to treat it like it's his fault. He let DCSP walk on a motion to take over Connections and then let it sit inaccessible. He let redesign plans go unfunded. We deserve a safe accessible library for everyone. He doesn't care.
22.08.2025 03:43 β π 14 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0If Janice Lukes or Scott Gillingham had wanted to make Wellington Cres safe, they clearly could have done so. This is a good program! These changes are good ones! But they do not care about our lives or those of our loved ones.
21.07.2025 21:11 β π 10 π 3 π¬ 1 π 1Every neighborhood deserves safer streets, except where someone has already died.
Gillingham and Lukes are first class weasels!

06.06.2025 16:42 β π 11 π 4 π¬ 0 π 0DECISION MAKING HISTORY On December 12, 2024, Council concurred in the recommendation of the Executive Policy Committee and adopted the following: 1. That the Winnipeg Public Service be directed to report back to the Standing Policy Committee on Public Works in 120 days with an interim solution to improve safety for yclists (ahead of a more permanent Walk Bike design study for separated cycling infrastructure can be undertaken, to allow for consideration for initial implementation in 2025. 2. That the Winnipeg Public Service be directed to work with community partners, including Bike Winnipeg to support public engagement and prioritization of Wellington Crescent within the City of Winnipeg plans and priorities in the upcoming Transportation Master Plan 2050 and updated Pedestrian and Cycling Strategies. 3. That the Winnipeg Public Service be directed to work with community partners, including Bike Winnipeg to support targeted stakeholder engagement, focusing on potentially impacted fronting property owners. 4. That the Proper Officers of the City be authorized to do all things necessary to implement the intent of the foregoing.
Rob Jenner was killed by a driver one year ago TODAY. Councillor Janice Lukes hasnβt delivered on safety measures that she promised the community would be implemented THIS YEAR. And now sheβs pushing back even LOOKING at the proposal into JULY.

26.04.2025 16:00 β π 15 π 7 π¬ 2 π 0Janice Lukesβs answer for why we canβt move faster is we donβt have the money, but sheβs 100% behind billion-dollar road widening projects that are estimated to save drivers 12 seconds on their commutes, and wants us to celebrate $7m/year for active transportation, much of which is just for studies

Personally I would be embarrassed, as a city leader, to solicit praise for setting a five-year target for reducing road death that doesnβt even meet levels we experienced three years ago.
26.04.2025 19:27 β π 24 π 6 π¬ 4 π 3She very clearly wants credit for being an advocate for active transportation without committing to build any infrastructure that will inconvenience her suburban driver constituents.
