I don't intend to take down the posts and I intend to continue to speak up about the proposed incinerator. I look forward to working with residents in the greater Sunbury area, to ensure that it doesnβt become Melbourneβs default waste site.
06.10.2025 05:33 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0To be clear, we are not encouraging people to break the law, to enter the site unlawfully or to create a risk to workers on the site. That said, itβs worth noting that there was not a lot of signage that indicated to myself and my staff that safety was potentially at risk.
06.10.2025 05:33 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Sadly, HiQ have requested that our video talking about the Sunbury incinerator be taken down after they alleged that our βunauthorised entry to the site posed a significant health and safety breachβ. π§΅

So nevertheless, the question remains: how will other MPs respond to their communities' concerns?
Unfortunately, the question was ruled out of order under standing orders that prohibit 'accusations' against other members. Of course, I respect the President's ruling.
Question Time got a little heated yesterday when I raised concerns about Labor MPs who have stood with their communities in opposing waste incinerators β rallying against the government's plan to roll out waste-to-energy plants across Victoria. π§΅

This Treaty marks a powerful step forward. Itβs a chance to begin to right the wrongs of the past, to recognise Indigenous sovereignty, and to build a future grounded in respect, equity, and most importantly β healing. (4/5)

Weβre not ideologically opposed to WTE β weβre opposed to rushing into it without proper scrutiny, without community consent, and without considering the long-term impacts.
Victoria has more waste-to-energy projects underway than the rest of Australia combined. Do we really want to be the waste state?
In Sunbury alone, a proposed incinerator will bring 700 extra trucks a week, spewing pollution near homes and a future town centre ...
Yesterday, Parliament passed our motion to establish an inquiry into the impacts of waste-to-energy β a major win for transparency and for the communities pushing back against these monster projects. π§΅

Last week in Parliament, I asked a question about bus infrastructure in Tarneit and Truganina, where many stops lack shelters.
I also mentioned issues with the PTV app showing 'ghost buses', where the app says a bus is arriving, but it does not. #SpringSt davidettershank.com.au/more-bus-she...
It is tragic and shameful that 584 Victorians died from overdose last year β including 102 in Melbourneβs west. This is the highest level in ten years and illustrates the urgent need to move from a punitive to a health-based approach to drug taking.
