Trump Wants to Cut Billions in Research Spending. Here’s How Much It Might Cost Your University. For more than a dozen institutions, the single-year losses could amount to over $100 million.

To better understand how the government’s proposal might affect university finances in the future, The Chronicle undertook an analysis of funding from the NIH to higher-ed institutions. chroni.cl/4gyxbVD

Rural students’ options shrink as colleges slash majors As enrollments fall, rural-serving universities are shedding degree programs ranging from music to chemistry.

Meanwhile at U.S. rural colleges/universities...

Due to program elimination rural students have fewer opportunities to major in humanities, languages, and other traditional majors. Some schools are seeing enrollment drop after the eliminations.

we need professors that are not naturals at academic writing
we need professors who didn’t have perfect grades
we need professors that went to community college
we need professors that went to non-selective institutions
we need professors that have always struggled to belong

Now, things feel a bit empty in many online platforms. We, as a society, have more technology than ever, and we're somehow less connected to each other than we ever have been.

How did we get here? As a society? As an industry?

#sachat was more than a hashtag. Once a week, it felt like the entire #highered community came together for a frank discussion on topics that were on our minds, and our hearts.

At times, I felt like I learned more from those discussions than in my grad school classes.

I've tried to explain to younger #highered professionals what Twitter was like circa 2009 - 2013. It's hard to really encapsulate.

We were able to build community. To learn from each other. To build online friendships that became real, deep in-person friendships.

Hi friend. It's good to see a friendly face here.

I couldn't stand Twitter anymore and I'm hoping this becomes a place for #highered to come together, build community and engage.
