Me: Lines up 45 minutes early for a 12:30 p.m. showing at a movie theater that doesnโ€™t assign seats.

Also me: What the hell are all of these other people doing in line? Donโ€™t they have JOBS?

This is the pizza Christmas lore. My family made turkey every year for christmas until my mom realized we all snacked all day and werenโ€™t hungry and weโ€™d be eating leftover turkey for a week. We tried various other things: ham, Cornish game hens. And then one year everyone was disgustingly sick and

Just this week I talked with the Voices of Roosevelt staff advisor about how much I liked a story they did where they laid out what PPS will do in the case that ICE is near a school.

And here we are...

this is wild: while Stephen Miller's guy was in Minnesota for his uncle's funeral, somebody was able to see his entire phone and take pictures of his Signal group chats talking about military deployments to Portland, and brought them to the Strib (gift link: www.startribune.com/trump-offici...)

Lawyer Dilan Esper writing about how amazing the Bollea v. Gawker case was for him while insisting no harm done to the 1st Amendment.

I can't say that much about our mediation strategy (it's shrouded in lawyer-client privilege and work product) but I have seen Nick Denton make accusations about it, and they are false. We were willing to settle; Gawker needed to offer a lot more than they did though.

In other words, Peter Thiel was not my client and he was not directing the litigation behind the scenes. We were actually litigating the case exactly the same way we would have had Bollea been personally paying his bills.

Thiel may have had his reasons for getting Gawker (and to be clear, he apparently paid the bills for several cases that were brought by us and others against Gawker), but the strategy doesn't work without a viable case. Gawker hung itself with its conduct towards Bollea.

The bottom line is I take a great deal of professional pride in what we did. Precisely because we actually didn't ruin the First Amendment. No outlet is prevented from doing real journalism as a result of the Bollea v. Gawker case. We simply enforced a long existing norm.

And drew a line in an era of "anything goes" content on the Internet. This was Hulk Hogan's legacy, and in a very real way, it is mine as well.

I had to spend two and a half years fighting a frivolous lawsuit that was a direct result of Bollea v. Gawker. And that lawsuit massively decreased our capability to do what we do, so I take issue with one of Hulk Hogan's lawyers claiming that Bollea v. Gawker had no impact on journalism

Bullies or demonstrators? How court records are describing Portlandโ€™s ICE protests Court records show a more nuanced picture of what federal officers have been facing.

The federal government narrative around ICE protests in Portland is much like it was in 2020, describing the demonstrations as chaotic and violent.

Court records filed by government prosecutors don't fully back up that story.

As more journalists are driven out of their jobs, I keep hearing this drumbeat of "it's ok -- they can start their own newsletter or publication." Some can. But becoming your own business is a huge job, and will eliminate many talented reporters from the public sphere. Here's why. (1/5)

James Gunnโ€™s Superman is exactly what DCโ€™s movies have been missing Itโ€™s a bird, itโ€™s a plane, itโ€™s a very good movie.

I've never been the biggest Superman fan, but James Gunn's take on the character feels like one of the best examples of how good superhero movies can be
