We spent the past month (months?) talking w/ protesters detained at Portland's ICE bldg about their experiences. We heard everything from being questioned about antifa, to not being read Miranda rights, to photos w/ arresting officers.

Their stories point to a slapdash, chaotic federal operation:

Interesting to see this happening here as Newport, Oregon, just a 2+ hour jaunt from Portland, faces threats of a new detention center. I won’t speculate, but I am a little curious how things might be playing out if the coastal town had a similar ordinance.

The state of Portland’s homelessness crisis, as mayor’s critical deadline passes Mayor Wilson came into office with a pledge to end street sleeping by Dec. 1. Today, thousands still live outside.

Mayor Wilson pledged to end unsheltered homelessness in Portland by Dec. 1.

Today, people are still sleeping on Portland streets.

But Wilson did met one goal: He secured $$ to open his goal of 1,500 new beds. (Yet only 890 of those beds are currently open for use.)

Update, I went back to check, and the lights are now back on. If there was any confusion before: the lights were not flashing, they were completely out—pitch black. Bad bad.

I’ve called 911 three times and been hung up on three times. As a citizen, I’ll be filing a complaint about BOEC and PPB to the independent police review Monday morning. No flares. No lights. Nothing. “We can’t spare an officer,” the last dispatcher said. Bullshit.

It’s completely dark. If you don’t drive travel these roads regularly, you would have no idea you should stop there. Not exactly public safety. A few weeks ago, 3 people died in one weekend in this same area. District 1 is completely abandoned by the cities most expensive bureaus.

Lights have been out at 102nd and Glisan for over 4 hours tonight and there is no traffic control at all. Wide open intersection. People buzzing through at regular speed, over 30mph speed limit. I already passed serious injury wreck at 6 pm! Police have $308 million budget this year. Where are they?
