My 5yo's newest pastime is organising funerals for dead bumblebees. He buries them with flowers and a note saying "Ik vont het vijn dat je hebt geleevd" (I'm glad you existed). He doesnt really know how to write yet, this note took him 8 tries but he kept going 😭

Truly the worst part and I'm glad someone else picked up on that. The whole thing seems the literary equivalent of "clothing the children in Africa" but it's actually dumping your toxic Shein hauls on a Ghana beach.

Just want to say that as an ex-academic I feel this SO MUCH - even as, objectively, my mental health has much improved by having a job I can easily switch off from. It's OK to grieve AND you will find other ways to reclaim & express these parts of you. all the best to you, bluesky stranger <3

It’s not the job of journalists to offer euphemisms to race scientists! If you’re going to mention academia in connection with this racist horseshit, do mention that every respected and respectable academic field rejects these fraudulent ideas and their noxious proponents.

This is a good take. I am not opposed to corporate presence at an academic conference but I want to know why they are there and what they're getting out of this. platforming big tech implies that our goals are aligned; i want to have that implication in the open & discussable at the VERY least.

Collega’s kunnen we alsjeblieft stoppen met ‘illegalen’ als zelfstandig naamwoord? Niet doen gewoon. Niet in koppen (sowieso geen citaten in koppen) en niet in artikelen of andere teksten. Taal die je gebruikt zegt niet alleen iets over hoe je een ander ziet maar bepaalt ook hoe je denkt.

Amen op dit stuk van @dingemansemark.bsky.social. Ongelofelijk dat universiteiten zo kritiekloos meegaan in het magische denken van de AI-techbros. "Werkdruk oplossen met AI" is geen plan, het is vaag handgewuif, en maakt individuen verantwoordelijk voor een institutioneel probleem.

Mijn man (die vaak een betere taalkundige is dan ik, ook al is hij geen taalkundige) wist het gelukkig nog: op mijn "dus..." antwoordde hij zojuist prompt "Knoop in een touwtje, dan heb je een lus".

Ik herinner me zo'n rijmpje op 'dus' dat eindigde met "...dan heb je een lus", maar ik kan me tot mijn frustratie het begin van die zin niet meer herinneren. Iemand?
