Hier is veel te weinig aandacht voor: de Baltische landen en Polen zijn uit het Ottawaverdrag gestapt. Wat betekent dat? Het Ottawaverdrag zegt dat je geen mijnen mag leggen in vredestijd.

Dying for gold: who killed the miners of Buffelsfontein? South Africa’s government blockaded hundreds underground. The results were deadly

At least 90 illegal gold miners starved to death when the South African government decided to crack down on their operations. Absolutely harrowing read and I don't understand how this didn't make it to world news.

EAF does only melt iron. It does not reduce iron ore.
My bet is that molten oxide electrolysis of iron ore (Boston Metals) will win over reduction with hydrogen.

Analysis: China Releases New Green Power Consumption Quotas China released its new renewable power consumption quotas last week and added heavy industry into the list of obligated entities. A Big Deal! I haven't put out any public commentary for China's Renewa...

China is requiring for the 1st time that steel&cement plants buy renewable electricity. Along with the increased minimum percentage of renewables for distribution firms, this boosts demand just as new solar&wind projects have to secure contracts directly with buyers.

What I learned at school regarding bullies is that sometimes you need throw a well aimed left hook. In this case form a coalition of retaliation (EU, Mexico, Canada, Brazil, China, …) and reciprocate with passion. Game Set Match.

Smart charging is NOT a new idea:

Here's an example from 1912 when smart and off peak charging was suggested as a solution to capacity constraints.

World's biggest hydrogen taxi operator goes all electric, blames high costs Hype, the Paris-based company that operates the world's biggest fleet of hydrogen taxis has reportedly dumped the technology and pivoted to all electric cars.

Proves again that the range of an hydrogen vehicle is limited by it's subsidies.

Turn it off. Stop using it. Turn it off. Stop. Stop. Stop.

If every time I was wrong about something, a gallon of precious water was boiled into the sky, my neighbourhood got polluted and someone lost their job, people would stop asking me things.

But why not the CCGT?
Way higher efficiency and the daily fluctuations are taken by batteries.
Dunkelflaute usually is usually longer than some days.
Eventually with the option to run it open or closed cycle.

Note the claims are quite opposite. Do we need inertia or don't we. Without physical inertia, digital control systems might have a hard time running stable.

Decarbonizing the last few percent Three questions lie at the heart of any discussion of the transition to net zero. How to decarbonize the grid; how to maintain grid stability; and how to do both affordably.

Three questions lie at the heart of any discussion of the transition to net zero. How to decarbonize the grid; how to maintain grid stability; and how to do both affordably. How one neglected approach could provide a big part of the answers…

Increased self consumption reduces the stress on the grid during feed in hours.
Flexibility=|=demand reduction.
Efficiency also works on darker days.

We also saw "pluralistic ignorance": MOST PEOPLE SUPPORTED NON-CAR TRAVEL, BUT THOUGHT THEY WERE THE MINORITY! 65-69% said they support non-car travel more than other people, which can't be true. Does the majority assume their own view is odd and so go quiet in debate, thus enabling loud minorities?

NEW from me: China's CO2 emissions fell ~1.6% in the first quarter and have now been flat or down for more than a year. This is the first time on record that emissions are falling due to clean energy growth, not slow power demand.
