So much of being disabled is grieving. Grieving the body you’ll never have, grieving the capabilities you used to have but no longer do, grieving friends and family who no longer reach out. It’s a heavy, ongoing type of grief that is compounding.

A get well soon card that has a person in a wheelchair, then a walker, and then a cane, walking along, and then jumping/cheering.

What happens when someone tells you to "Get Well Soon". I wish someone would say it to me.

All consuming Like any other emotion I feel, love engulfs me entirely. The weight of my world rests on one person's shoulders. Their smile brightens my dimly lit mind; their words twist and turn my heart. Their love is my life blood, Grounding me in the present, Reminding me of my humanity.

Yet I find myself longing for them to be equally immersed in this love, to the point where I will fabricate it, to embody everything they adored before me. I transform into what they desire, loving so deeply that I become a stranger to myself, an imposter. Fearing the moment they might see me for who I truly am.
