Tariff revenue is operating like ship money did for Charles I, when he tried to rule England without Parliament. Like the US, only the legislature could legitimately tax the people, but Charles used innovative abuses of his powers to raise & spend money as he wanted

(He later lost his crown & head)

This is personalism. It's the Charles I scenario -- the king rules without the a legislature and simply taxes and spends in whatever way he feels like.

Impeach, remove, disqualify.

Rutgers professor moving to Europe after threats over antifa accusations Mark Bray says threats intensified after a Turning Point USA petition accused him of promoting political violence

Mark Bray is a brilliant scholar and by all accounts a caring and wonderful educator, and is now moving to Europe because the fascists doxed him and his family

Feels pretty huge that he’s forced to do thisβ€”the harassment was bad in β€˜16 but I don’t think he’s ever felt compelled to leave the country

After law school, only one thing is gonna keep me from prosecuting murders in my home town, and that is prosecuting the shameful federal β€˜law enforcement’ officers who are so proudly violating the law. Save your signing bonuses for defense lawyers. You’ll need them.

In none of these cases, when the federal government was openly and with good reason using military force, did Eisenhower or JFK or LBJ say "ok, we're sending the Vermont National Guard to Mississippi to handle this." That would have been understood as insane, it wasn't even considered.

Listen, if you can't launch a public, undercover operation against something that doesn't exist, via press release on a microblogging site, can you really call it an undercover operation?

Also not the main point but usually you announce when the undercover operation is successful not when you launch it, because, well, yknow, undercover

One of the more incredible stories out of LA this year has been how a taco review blog became the best on-the-ground coverage of ICE raids in the city.

They do a dispatch every day, follow-up on the kidnapped people (which almost no media outlet has done), and fact-check government claims.

Dunno man, seems a little misleading to write an article about Trump describing activity in Portland and Chicago as β€œinsurrection” with a 33 year old photo of a burning donut shop taken in the 1992 LA Riots (sans caption explaining that) as the header on all your posts about it.

Received this video from a former staffer of mine. It’s a leaking pipeline in the Permian Basin. They called the Carlsbad field office and no one picked up, so it can’t be reported or followed up on.

The cost of the shutdown will be felt for decades.

This really makes it sound like a Border Patrol agent tried to kill an anti-ICE activist in Chicago and DHS lied to cover for him

It’s important to flood social media and news channels with news about how ICE lies, so that potential jurors see it.

Being a federal law enforcement agent does not give you an exemption from the law. The statute of limitations for assault under federal law is five years. This goon must be investigated and prosecuted.

It's a pretty big deal that the NYC Bar Association--one of the most prominent and respected bar associations in the country--is accusing the President of ordering the "unlawful summary execution," i.e. murder--of civilians in violation of US and international law. www.nycbar.org/press-releas...

"Transparency and faith in the rule of law" are at issue here, Ellis says, noting that having her name on opinions keeps her "from going off the rails, because I have to do it publicly. Here, I think it is important that these officers and agents, at some point along the way, could be identified."

Nice to see this statement. I've heard that the cancellation of all these clean energy projects has caused absolute chaos among the unions, which have been preparing for specific projects, assigning experienced workers to them, and opening new jobs to backfill these movesβ€” all now completely shot.

This is my blood
I marvel at the design of our weapons. So sophisticated
that they can transform any man woman or child into
a terrorist. Writing in their flight between launch and
concussion an entire alternate history of a life.
Just as the cop’s bullet convicts you of a crime. Its
presence in your body evidence enough that it always
belonged there.
A violent transubstantiation.

Because if "Trump screaming that there's a problem" is sufficient to earn deference upfront, and "we aren't going to micromanage deployments" shores up the back-end, then there's effectively zero judicial oversight.
