Yes! I hadnโt thought about it in years until our meetup! I thought they were long gone. I also didnโt realize some of my fave books like that Grimm one and the Kitty one were in Spanish! My memory had translated them. Found them in unopened moving boxes while searching for art supplies!

The black face on ANTM as well as the โworst makeoversโ are a frequent topic on YouTube. How did the show stay so popular for so long?

Books from my childhood. My uncle would give me books (from Venezuela) for my birthdays. These were the few that survived, and that I kept anyway after they got soaked in Hurricane Andrew
My favorite scene - The daughter gets to look at spiders. The family enjoys their vacation together while also being curious and enjoying nature. I would constantly come back to this double page spread. They all looked so happy and free to be themselves.
In a box I hadnโt opened in decades I found my surviving kids books. Drawn to it by a recent conversation about the books we loved as kids vs how we draw as adults. It is so telling. My favorite scene from my favorite book is that of a happy family. I dreamed of a loving, caring father.

I forgot about the braces. Wasnโt there one contestant that had their tooth gap widened by shaving their teeth? I stopped watching when I realized (in therapy) it was feeding my hatred of my own body. Those weigh-ins and the constant shaming. . . so unhealthy on so many levels.

I just listened to the author read aloud you posted. That is an excellent summation of where we find ourselves in this country (as well as what Tyra was doing to young people in ANTMโฆ I remember the horrible hair treatments chosen for some on the basis of maximum humiliation)

So the confrontations, violent apprehensions, and general fear bearing down on communities like Minnesota is only the beginning of the nightmare. Behind the scenes, Orwellian anti-judicial antics thwart lawful recourse. And hidden from sight, non-citizens are tortured for being noncitizens.

People can have different political opinions about immigration policy. Political differences are fine, healthy for a democracy.
But if youโre okay with this, thatโs not a political opinion. That is a moral failing.

And even when we move at warp speed and outpace this regime, DHS doesnโt care. Theyโve moved people to Texas hours or days after being enjoined.
When ordered to return them, DHS justโฆ doesnโt. The AUSAs let them: when we notify them of a violation, they send the email equivalent of a shrug.

See ICE wants these cases in Texas, where Trump-infected courts are more tolerant of their antics, more biased against non-citizens, more willing to let DHS fill up concentration camps.
(Not all Texas judges, for sure. Plenty are bravely faithful to the rule of law. ICE is playing the numbers)

Hundreds of judges reject Trumpโs mandatory detention policy, with no end in sight
Judges have ruled against the administration in more than 1,600 cases.
Judges have mostly rejected the governmentโs attempt to detain anyone who is black or brown. As of early January (the last time anyone had time to count) 300 judges in 1000s of decisions rejected the governmentโs arguments. Less than a dozen permit it.

Donโt be fooled by headlines when theyโve been lying to us the whole time. We still need you out patrolling until every agent is gone.

Agreed. The exhibition does show the links to the cubists and abstract artists of the time. And yes, I sought out the women and BIPOC in modern art and abstract expressionism as a student and they were there; present and active but not counted by American art historians.

LAPD Charges at Hundreds of High School Students in Peaceful Walkout Protest at MDC ~ L.A. TACO

I feel like Los Angeles is a place where people expect ICE to happen because the kidnappings have been happening to my home city for decades, so thereโs less media attention to it now. and I want folks to see that in LA, Latine students are organizing major protests & the police are attacking them
