Well Google .... enjoying the various responses, the first was right, but snap shots of the time from around the world, don't actually help. Interestingly at one point google tested only showing a single result for a week in 2018 (second photo from @rustybrick.com )

I've now started going down a bit of a rabbit hole, and if Perpexity is to be believed (AI) - since 2006 usage has been dropping year on year for the UK at least, but it has potentially gone up last year, I suspect the shift to electric cars will impact that!

Does this stop the 'microwave' energy? Or does it hide it ? This is really scary the speed at which we are increasing our energy usage. With energy saving devices & renewable we should be in a very different 'green' state.

I thought at one point Google was more anti AI generated content, at least in a subtle way, I can't find much here that says they dislike it at all, worryingly that could be interpreted as some to generate huge volumes of low quality
