He had been admitted to the Crichton Royal Asylum in Dumfries in 1892 due to the lack of such a facility in Lanarkshire at the time.
He died at Hartwood aged 84. Some historical patient records are held at the NL Heritage Centre.

Switching off after a busy week isnβt a luxury - itβs essential. It prevents burnout, boosts mental health, strengthens work-life balance, and recharges creativity. Prioritise rest, hobbies, and downtime. Thrive, donβt just survive. #SelfCare #Wellbeing

10.04.2025 15:25 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Monday Mindset: Start your week with intention.
Before diving into work, take a moment to check in:
β’ How are you feeling today?
β’Β Whatβs one small action to support your wellbeing?
A short walk, clear boundaries, a quick chat - small steps equal big impact.

Rachel Reeves wants to reduce UK govt debt i.e. remove money from the economy, cut jobs.
But the state has dumped what was once public debt to households - student debt, borrowing money to pay for energy.
State can never be short of money. People can.
Janet McCallum was a mill worker & suffragette jailed for storming Westminster. Like most working class suffragettes, her sacrifice has gone unrecognised. Now some Fife schoolgirls are campaigning to change that. My news feature for @heraldscotland.bsky.social. www.heraldscotland.com/news/2502893...

18.03.2025 18:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The Irish famine of the 1840s reminds us that the Great Hunger was shaped by a mind-set that is now again in the ascendent: the poor are the authors of their own misery, and the market must be obeyed at all costs.

Erratic earnings across a year are more common for young workers, part-time workers, low-paid workers, workers on temporary contracts, and workers in hospitality.
One-in-four (24 per cent) young people (aged 20-24) experience erratic pay over a year.
πΈ Unpaid work limits women's careers
πΈ Gender gaps in time use narrowed in 1980s-2000s but have now stalled
πΈ Men still do little unpaid work & change is too slow
To close these gaps, we need paid parental leave, flexible work & cultural shifts.
