My utopia would be another couple of percentage points on fuel duty (with equivalent tax breaks for commercial vehicles where modal shift is impractical) as a large part of the funding model.

Very much this! That said, I don’t think all hope is lost. According to @rvdborgt.bsky.social (who is also usually great on European railway matters!) it’s RDC SJ don’t want to renew with (presumably too expensive w/o subsidy), they still haven’t made a final decision re the train running at all.

Geez, there are some communities at real risk of being essentially cut off in practical terms from the rest of the country with this news... hopefully the shutdown impasse gets resolved before then but (certainly from the news we're getting in the UK about progress!) I'm not amazingly hopeful...

I like it here, and the *quality* of discussion is definitely better - but I find myself still interacting more on X for infosec as a large subset either haven't moved or I simply am not aware they're here! Finding people here can be trickier, I don't find the user search as good.

A lot of my issue with how UKGov is handling CyberSec issues (OSA aside which is just a flawed piece of legislation generally) in a wider sense - and this is a great example - comes down to transparency. Let’s hear the ‘why’ and that allows proper debate.

Good afternoon from the ‘Max Express’! By a long way the most public transport-friendly GP and a huge logistical exercise. Trains run from Amsterdam to the circuit and back every 5 minutes all weekend. Extremely well run by NS, under 15 minutes from start of queue to being on our way to Zandvoort!

This is an excellent interview and well worth a listen. The knowledgeable enthusiasm of @jonworth.eu explaining the different players for expanding cross-Channel services, and the challenges they face both before and after starting revenue services, really is engaging.

Ah at least it’s not a /2! I actually quite like them on the rare occasion (at least when I travel seemingly…) the train isn’t absolutely wedged…

Particularly if you get the newer ones with the wood-effect finish and wireless charging… probably my favourite overall European high speed train interior (though it’s close with the RJ2…)

This is a great initiative! I know I found it daunting the first time I walked into a WordCamp (where my company wasn't also sponsoring so didn't have colleagues with me for support!) and would have really appreciated something like this...

I do sympathise a bit with Bluesky here - they've had to adapt to decidedly imperfect UK legislation in the form of the Online Safety Act, and are big enough that they probably do have to follow it to the letter, rather than just 'mostly, with some common sense applied'.

Passkeys are great if you've got a password manager that syncs across all your devices (I use 1Password for that purpose). Agree that without that they're more a hinderance than a help though!

It was great! Real festival atmosphere too, it pretty much takes over the host city for the week. Though now I’ve done a live show for the first time I think the evening previews (‘jury’ shows) are the best balance between cost and experience, plus you then get to see the live shows on TV!

They’re released usually in Dec/Jan but can vary - exact process depends on host broadcaster, for Basel it worked like Glastonbury: pre-registration then first come first served for each wave. There’s also usually resale nearer the time.
