Vintage computer collector and maintainer of https://vintagecomputer.ca I was previously known as "MrGoodBits" on Twitter. I'll be posting various pics of mostly historical computers from my vintage computer collection.

01.08.2025 10:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'd have to go with this Apple Lisa 1 battery damage. Parts were literally falling off when touched. It's very common if the batteries were not removed. I had to find an alternate I/O board but it could have been an ugly repair.

14.07.2025 19:28 β π 28 π 6 π¬ 1 π 0This is a die shot of the Microsystems International Limited (MIL) MF7115 RM chip. #vintagecomputer #retrocomputer
Decapped a Microsystems International Limited (MIL) MF7115 RAM chip from 1972. This was part of the chipset of the MF7114 CPU that started out as the #Intel 4005 (4004 follow up). After Intel abandoned it, MIL continued the design work. It and this RAM vanished into obscurity after 8008 came out.
10.07.2025 15:31 β π 6 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Very cool restoration. I have personally used Ninjaflex for stuff like this including belts. Works well.

03.07.2025 20:15 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Putting together some PiSCSI units. I ordered the parts and boards and when they arrived, I quickly understood what "0402" meant in terms of surface mount components. R3 and R4 are two of them. Good Lord those are small! I lost six of them just taking the plastic off the stripe.

In my view, #Commodore died in 1994. I've got the t-shirt to prove it. #vintagecomputer #retrocomputer

Excited to see this beauty arrive. I am not particularly a "boxed vintage computer" collector but it will be interesting to explore what came with the #IBM EduQuest. I've never seen one in a box before. Unboxing will have to wait for other projects first, though. #vintagecomputer #retrocomputer

22.06.2025 16:49 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is a Unisys (previously Burroughs or Cemcorp) Icon computer that was a networked workstation that booted from the network file server known as the Lexicon server. There are enough similarities that I could hack the workstation to think it's a standalone server so it now runs instead of sitting there, waiting for a server to respond to it's boot request. #vintagecomputer #retrocomputer #Ontario #Burroughs #Unisys #Icon
After many weeks of experimentation and hacking, I've finally managed to get my Ontario educational Unisys Icon computer workstation to think it's a Lexicon server and boot up it's native QNX operating system from hard drive. Now I am in dire need any software that might be out in the wild. Help!
21.06.2025 17:52 β π 62 π 5 π¬ 6 π 0For the Cyborg ISAAC, ISAAC was an acronym for "Integrated System for Automated Acquisition and Control". Basically a fancy Digital to Analog and Analog to Digital control unit. Here is a good example of how it could be used: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16346462/
13.06.2025 18:54 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0One thing I love about #vintagecomputer collecting is reuniting obscure parts to make a more complete unit. Two items arrived today. First is the interface card for a Cyborg ISAAC for the #AppleII. Second is an #IBM Midi breakout box for the IBM PC Music Feature sound card. More to explore soon.
13.06.2025 18:29 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Microsoft ScanDisk, my old friend... Going through some old MFM hard drives and low level formatting/formatting them and ScanDisk makes a tool to exercise drives now. It used to be a great tool back in the day along with Norton Utilities and PCTools. Remember those early versions?
09.06.2025 13:10 β π 26 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It's an awesome chip tester. The only drawback is that it doesn't have a power switch. That would have been nice.
06.06.2025 10:53 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Never thought Iβd ever have to bust out this relic from the past. I didnβt keep the BNC crimper or I would have used the crimp BNC connectors like back in the day. Need cables for a little ArcNet experiment soon. #vintagecomputer #retrocomputer
04.06.2025 11:43 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Most Mindset titles are very graphic and video centric as that was the market they were going after. Unfortunately, my base model Mindset cannot run some. Later models had more memory. Mindset DOS was 2.11 but I installed MS-DOS 3.3 instead. Not sure if most can run from HD as it came too late.
29.05.2025 11:10 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I couldn't name more than 5 people with a Mindset. That said, I did have to reproduce the SASI Controller interface from pictures and a schematic recently found to get one of the many parts needed to get a hard drive to work. I might do a serial cartridge too at some point.
29.05.2025 01:03 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The Mindset computer add-ons are cartridges. The serial port is a cartridge and not built in. I don't have that cartridge so I don't have much of a choice :)

24.05.2025 12:05 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Pictured here is a normal looking Commodore 64 computer with a slightly weird key layout (the arrow keys look odd). This was the provisional case and keyboard used with the early TED Developer Alpha motherboards. #vintagecomputer #retrocomputer
This picture is of the TED Developer Alpha motherboard, number P15, within the C64 case. The C64 opening were used for various ports and the power switch and this unit still used the normal C64 compatible joysticks. The main TED chips are hand bonded and you can see cellophane tape holding the lids on.
This is a picture of the TED Developer Alpha computer running. The familiar colour scheme of the production models was not yet used so it looks a little peculiar. The Alpha units only had 16K of memory.
This is NOT a Commodore 64 with a messed up keyboard.
This is a TED Developer Alpha unit (# P15) used to give early access to developers to create software for the TED line of computers including the Commodore 116, C264 and V364 and later production Commodore 16 and Commodore Plus 4. #ComMAYdore
This is a picture of an MOS 7600-001 PONG chip and original holder. It's never been used. I got it from an early Commodore employee.
#Commodore also produced individual chips via the MOS Technology arm. Here is a very early PONG chip used in #videogame consoles in the mid to late 70s. This is the MOS 7600-001 dated 40th week 1976 #ComMAYdore

Good point. I'm not sure I tried the original 90Β° tank mouse with this set up.
The PEB adds much needed functionality to the TI 99/4a so it makes sense to reproduce. I'm not sure 1060 adds much functionality as it just PC clone-ifies an Amiga and it's not all that useful in this day and age.
