Finally getting to the point where buying a few articles of clothing doesn't bankrupt me. Now the *real* fun can begin. Already planning my third outfit. And I've got most of my team set.

Still a lot up in the air; which secondary characters survive, what threads can be used in the next steps, the tone I want this to end. Do I want the spark of hope to be the note to end it here or do I have it be the start the next one? I know what it is, just need to determine where.

By the end of this story, there's a lull in the fighting. The immediate threat to both the main group, their friends and even the city have either been stopped or at least temporarily repelled. But the bigger issues are still on the horizon. Everyone has time to regroup and make a plan.

“The process itself” feels like a copout, so I’ll give a recent one.
Working on shorter pieces recently has helped me enjoy finding the perfect little grouping of words. I’m normally verbose, so finding more efficient phrases with the same meaning has been working wonders for morale.

How much do I want the last section to be emotional recovery after painful defeat and letting things cool down and how much do I want an action beat to *show* defiance in the face of seemingly impossible odds? Need to consider the flow of “end of this, setup for the next”.

The second one is basically the Dark Night of the Soul. Do I place that before the big fight so the heroes can get a small win so there’s still some hope, or do I have the fight go first to look like there’s a reversal of fortune only to shut it down and build more suspense?

I have 3 final conflicts with the villains of the piece. The physical, personal one, the large scale one that reveals a truth of the setting and the revelation of machinations that span this and the last book going into the next.

The order depends on the exact tone I want this to end.

You can say “The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy has the same context-warping twist as The Stormlight Archives” and it isn’t a spoiler because everyone who only finished one will ask “which one are you talking about?”

Not really. For the magic side of it, he worships a god that values martial prowess, and that god's gift to mortals was the means to defend from spells.

As for the tech side of it, he's just old. As the prompt says, if it isn't a weapon, he's "can't figure out the TV Remote" bad with it.

Got a ticket to Chainsaw Man, an author’s fair and offline family stuff lined up for the weekend. Busy, but the fun kind of busy. Not the stupid kind of busy I’ve been dealing with this week.

Shogum specifically has magic-blocking blessed items and doesn’t get tech at all.

As for other settings:
Xiel is unusually in touch with mortal technology.
Lahayne used to be a high-level caster, but stuck to a limited selection. Strong, but overspecialized.
The cyberpunk mercs are experts with it.

The fantasy WIP has a lot of magitech, so there’s a divide.

Tech is basically the only part of magic Ash really gets. But he’s good at taking it apart.
Ginra is more about magic cast like a mage, but she enjoys tech.
Maxi sees magic as an art and just trusts the tech side of it.

I know exactly enough about CS skin economics from my old TF2 days to find this hilarious.

Sounds like a bunch of finance bros tried to do to this what they did to Pokémon cards and lost a lot of money. Good.

Part of the issue is finding where exactly the Dark Night happens and what events are still left to do.

But the basic idea I’ve got is “ok, you’ve zoomed out and seen the full picture. Now zoom back in and determine what’s most important.”

Vibes today. I’m surprised I had anything close. Going from grassy hills to rocky canyons with little signs of anything between the two. Just an abrupt shift.

Been taking my time in the early parts. I'm having fun messing around, and I've got a function team so far. But I really want things to open up.

Playing through Z-A. I've gotten so used to a massive pool of Pokemon to pick right away in the last two generations that the smaller selection feels weird to go back to. Or maybe it just feels smaller because I don't like most of my options 4 Wild Areas in.

Home tab wasn’t working on the app. Restarted it, still didn’t work. Posted a few times, still didn’t work. Restarted it again… and now it works.

Ok.

This isn’t just why this bad guy wants to kill him and everyone he knows. It’s why the land has been cursed and how it happened, from someone with first-hand knowledge. And there’s basically nothing useful he can do with this information.

I misunderstood the prompt today. I thought this was the lead-up to the Dark Night of the Soul, not the event itself. I know exactly what that is. MC discovers a truth of the world from a primary source. The central idea of a main antagonist. And it’s even worse than he thought.
