I’m not even Catholic, but as a Christian, I find this tasteless and sacrilegious. I dare any professing Christian to say otherwise.

This isn’t funny. Trump supporters saying we can’t take a joke would be apoplectic if any other politician suggested, joking or not, that he should be the pope.

That’s a very good point. I have a small list, but we’d have to make sure folks would want to be on the list.

This is great, Cecil! I’m curious, is it possible to add people to the feed? As in, could we add ourselves and other known ASP members, and would our posts then appear in the feed regardless of our use of the hashtags?

#ConsistentLife and #CLE are both great, and commonly used in our circles and outside ASP with ASP adjacent folks.

Same with #subsidiarity. I suppose the best word we can use there is somewhat jargon-ish, namely #localism. Local also implies *only* local, which doesn’t capture subsidiarity entirely. There might be a better phrase.

On #distributism, I would say #OwnershipEconomy means the same thing when we use it, and it’s plain English. It’s better not to use jargon for public consumption.

Good idea, Cecil. I suggest #ASP, but also something people outside the party would understand.

I reject any critique on the free press that rests solely on its unwillingness to toe a party line or act like a stenographer to power.

Long live the free press! As it goes, so goes our republic.

It’s a journalist’s job to report the truth, and that generally entails an antagonistic posture because lots of powerful people would rather you don’t know the truth.

Contrary to Trump’s claims that the press are the “enemy of the people,” at their best, the press are among our surest guarantors of liberty. The citizenry cannot be free if we are not informed.

There are many legitimate criticisms of our far too often corporate-controlled media. You should practice good media hygiene by reading news and news analysis from a variety of independent sources.

Thomas Jefferson famously wrote, “Were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate to prefer the latter.”

As a former journalist, and a current and forever respecter of the indispensable value of a free press, I find Trump’s attacks on press freedoms throughout both his terms in office to be deeply troubling.

With Trump’s attacks on @voanews.com.web.brid.gy making headlines, it’s worth noting that the only profession mentioned by name and protected in the Constitution is the press.

If we had a starter pack, Mike would surely be on it. Welcome aboard, Mike!
