This is action EVERY city in the country can take. If your hotels cooperate with ICE, goodbye liquor revenue.

…. I will never forgive Reagan for the Aids crisis. Never ever ever.

Because if he hadn’t systemically killed off so many of our queer and sex worker elders

We could have had a society where folks worked this shit out in a club or mattress instead of using tech to fulfill their kinks

Defeating the Evil Among Us Only a radical Americanism that fulfills the vision of Jefferson and Lincoln can see us through this dark chapter

β€œWe need leaders who are genuinely committed to a progressive future that includes breaking the oligarchy, holding the criminal elite accountable and pursuing policies that celebrate diversity and expand equality.

β€œThat means pursuing radical Americanism.”

True, especially in the conservative Christian community. In the last year two books made a big enough splash that I heard about them well outside that communityβ€”The Sin of Empathy by Joe Rigney and Toxic empathy by Allie Beth Stuckey.

What is obvious to me is that a lot of people deeply care about their neighbors and this country.

They didn't think we would. We do.

one of the reasons everybody hates late arrivals from the right or even the center is they're all weepy little idiots who want to be coddled and forgiven and make it everybody else's problem. shut up, figure out how to help fix what you broke, and stop writing thinkpieces

Backtracking after backlash means backlash works. Also, saying didn't know what you're doing means you shouldn't be in Congress.

To get a tenure track job with degree in hand AND publisher interest in your dissertation.

At first I’m thinking maybe a typo and it was 1989, but he is a year younger than me and I finished undergrad at 22 in 1988 so…

It’s probably the era of his life where he actually was the most useful to fellow humans.

Also reading his Wikipedia entry and he was on tenure track at his college in 1994 but didn’t finish his diss til 1999?? I was in grad school in the 90s and it was already hard AF

I think it was more that he was so full of himself and was so identified with being the hot/cool professor. He literally wrote the college’s policy against profs dating students while continuing to do so himself!
But I do take your point.

Bought it, read it cover to cover that night, and just kept feeling a mental CLICK! CLICK! CLICK! with every page. I was like, β€œYup bisexuality is real and I’m one!” It was an amazing moment and feeling. Thanks forever to Charis Bookstore, the publishers and writers in this book,

But straight people don’t read the gay newspaper all the time or know about all these controversies!

And that was rattling around in my head when I went to the feminist bookstore for a browse later that week. I asked if they had any books on bisexuality and this was the ONE! On the shelf.

26.01.2026 15:22 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I found it because I was a faithful reader of the local gay newspaper and I was ranting about some gross unfair treatment of someone to my straight friend/housemate and she said β€œJesus when are you just gonna come out as lesbian? You say you are straight

26.01.2026 15:21 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I identified as β€œstraight but not narrow” because I had dated and genuinely enjoyed sex with guys, but had also fooled around with women. I was informed by lesbian friends that bi isn’t real, it’s just gay in denial or a straight person with a fetish. The anthology argued forcefully otherwise.

A perfect illustration of what I saw someone else sayingβ€”the administration is activating all the β€œI’m not into politics” people who mostly ignore national and world affairs and usually don’t even vote, and it is going to be their downfall.
